๐ ๏ธ WHAT TO DO IF YOUR SCOOTER GETS DROWNED IN FLOODWATER
๐ซ 1. Donโt Start the Engine Yet
Avoid starting the scooter right after the flood โ it can cause hydrolock (bent piston or connecting rod).
Push or tow it to a dry area first.
๐ง 2. Drain Out Any Water
Remove the spark plug, then kickstart or crank to push out water from the cylinder.
Drain the carburetor or clean the throttle body (for FI scooters).
Empty the airbox โ it often traps water.
๐ 3. Dry All Electrical Components
Remove the battery and dry the terminals.
Open the fuse box, ignition switch, and connectors; blow-dry gently.
Spray WD-40 or contact cleaner to prevent corrosion.
๐ข๏ธ 4. Replace Contaminated Fluids
Change engine oil (and gear oil, if separate).
If the oil looks milky or creamy, water got inside โ change it twice (run engine shortly, then drain again).
Drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh gasoline if floodwater entered the tank.
โ๏ธ 5. Check and Clean the CVT Parts (Important!)
Remove the CVT cover and inspect the drive belt, pulley, variator, and clutch.
Dry all components completely โ no moisture should remain inside.
Clean out mud or silt using compressed air or a dry cloth.
If the belt shows signs of slipping, glazing, or damage, replace it immediately.
Reassemble only when all parts are dry and clean.
๐งฝ 6. Clean and Lubricate
Clean and l**e chain (if applicable), levers, cables, and suspension linkages.
Clean brake pads/drums/discs from mud โ replace if soaked in dirty water.
๐ฌ๏ธ 7. Check the Air Filter
Remove and inspect the air filter.
If wet or muddy, replace it โ donโt try to reuse it.
๐๏ธ 8. Test Everything Before Riding
Reinstall spark plug and start the engine after drying and oil changes.
Let it idle for a few minutes, then check for smoke or unusual sounds.
Test brakes, throttle, horn, and lights.
Take a short, gentle ride to ensure smooth performance.
๐งฐ 9. Final Step: Professional Check-Up
Have a mechanic inspect for deeper issues, especially if the scooter was fully submerged.
Ask them to check:
Starter motor and alternator
Bearings and bushings
Electrical harness and sensors
