Alright James Deakin, let's discuss the main highlight of the issue with regards to the High Voltage Battery Fault of the Ford Territory Hybrid by using an applied Scientific Discipline: Electrochemistry from a Technician's pov.
First, we are going to discuss the Battery Composition of the car's hybrid battery pack: LiFePO4 or aka Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery and how redox reaction in a Battery pack works.
Second, In Electrochemistry, Redox reaction is defined as the transfer of electrons from a non spontaneous reaction to a spontaneous reaction of ionic charge.
Third, modern hybrid cars nowadays use Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery packs for less molecular mass than a Lead Acid Car Battery, maximum fuel economy, and the reduced cost efficiency to produce one.
Also, Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery packs use Lithium Ions for its Battery Cell plates for its Cathode (+) and Anode. (-) With inclusion, the aforementioned chemical compound serves as its electrolytes.
Lastly, how does the Redox reaction happen inside a Battery pack?
1.) Reduction Oxidation occurs when there is an electrolyte depletion.
2.) A drastic increase of Battery Temperatures occurs to decrease battery life.
3.) An increase of Atmospheric Pressure that results in Battery inflammation .
4.) When there is an exposure to Moisture of electrolytes.
5.) Battery leak.
6.) Decrease in state of charge that can increase chances of overheating from a High Voltage Battery Fault.
Therefore, modern cars too have these features called the limp mode programmed in the ECU to stall the vehicle to prevent vehicular explosions from happening.
In conclusion, a Ford hybrid vehicle dies out due to a High Voltage Battery Fault from a non Spontaneous to a Spontaneous Redox reaction and Atmospheric Pressure increase due to possible overheating.
Ford Motor Company denied these factual claims on their Ford Territory hybrid now that's for sure. Clearing an ECM error code on a scanner technically won't work when it comes back. It just shows that the hardware itself already has defects.
