Typhoon Uwan continues its rapid intensification.
PAGASA says there is an increasing likelihood of a southward shift in the typhoon’s track that may result to a direct hit or landfall over Catanduanes.
Wind signal no. 2 is now up in Catanduanes, eastern Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Ticao Island, Northern Samar, northern portion of Samar, northern Eastern Samar.
Metro Manila and 52 provinces are all under signal no. 1.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the typhoon was located 760 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, now with winds of 140 kph and gusts up to 170 kph. It is moving westward at 35 kph.
Uwan may reach super typhoon strength by Sunday and pass close to Catanduanes Sunday morning.
Uwan may make landfall over northern Aurora or southern Isabela Sunday evening or early Monday.
It may weaken but will remain a typhoon while crossing the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon.
It will be over the West Philippine Sea Monday morning or afternoon.
Uwan will bring significant rainfall across Luzon and Eastern Visayas during its passage.
Up to torrential rains are forecast over Bicol through Sunday noon and Northern and Central Luzon Sunday noon to Monday noon.
Widespread and serious flooding and landslides are expected.
At least a meter of storm surge may be experienced over Dinagat, Siargao, Samar, and most of the coastal areas of Luzon.
Life-threatening storm surge exceeding 3 meters height may be likely over Bicol, Quezon, Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan, and Pangasinan.
