Last year’s participants that are once again exhibiting their entries to the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) are vehicle manufacturers Foton, Hino, Isuzu, and Tata, as well as local truck body makers Almazora, Centro, and Santarosa.

New participants and exhibitors at this year’s show are JMC, Suzuki–with a prototype based on its Super Carry’s Utility Van platform–and SBX, an electric microbus that’s manufactured in Japan and is being promoted by SoftBank.

The President of PhilAPEX’s organizer though is still optimistic of the local automotive industry.

“As this event empowers local suppliers, it will also, in effect, boost the national economy,” said Philippine Parts Makers Association’s (PPMA) Ferdinand Raquelsantos. Ferdi Raquelsantos

“PPMA upholds to coninue giving aid and representation to local automotive industries by soliciting support from all sectors and individual citizens to advocate and prioritize Filipino-made products. Because the key to a strong Philippine automotive industry is that which is patronized and trusted by their very own government, members, and all Filipinos,” the PPMA said in a statement.

First, we would like to congratulate PPMA for the second PhilAPEX. The first expo was a success and this one just refreshes and reminds everybody that we’re getting closer and closer to modernization. This success wouldn’t be possible if not because of the ongoing support of the Department of Trade and Industry - Board of Investments (DTI-BOI). This just proves that the government is serious about cleaning out our ozones.

Following a successful expo last year, the Philippine Parts Makers Association holds the 2018 PhilAPEX.

With these positive developments in the local automotive industry giving more chance to local parts manufacturers, PPMA President Ferdinand Raquelsantos shared, “this program is what local auto part makers and vehicle body builders have been waited for. It provides local manufacturing activities that boost our industry. It is something we can look forward to that will fill up our plant utilization and sustain our labor force, if not even increase job generation.”
