Summary:

ODESH Motors Blaval Model A test-drive in Port Moresby covered 67 km using only 50% battery.

Based on the latest Port Moresby diesel price of K7.6944/L, the same trip in a typical diesel vehicle at 10L/100km would cost about K51.55.

The EV used about K5.34 worth of PNG Power electricity, meaning a saving of about K46.21 for that trip alone. Recharging the battery from 50% back to full would cost only about K5.34.

C’mon, this is not fair. Fare adjustments should have been announced together with the new fuel prices. Right now, PMVs and taxis are charging different rates at their own will. Hoping the proper announcement comes soon.

All licensed Public Motor Vehicles (PMV) and taxi owners and operators currently providing services must strictly comply with the maximum approved fares, as published by the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) in National Gazette No. G21 of January 9, 2026.
