A perfect boat on an unprepared trailer is still not going boating.

Check the tyres and sidewalls, make sure the spare is aboard and inflated, and confirm the jack and wheel brace you carry actually suit the trailer. It is a much easier exercise in the driveway than on the shoulder of the road.

Winter is very good at revealing which batteries were already getting tired.

Check charge, terminals and cables, and if the battery condition is uncertain, have it properly tested - particularly if it has already seen several seasons.

This very tidy Tristram came in with an older Evinrude 115hp two-stroke that had reached the stage where its owner was ready for an upgrade.

While she was with us, we gave the boat a bit of a freshen-up too, including new clears, seat- swivels, and canopy, before fitting a new Mercury 115hp CT FourStroke.

The result?
A new boat feels that looks great, performs better and has a very happy owner.
He reckons he’s now using around half the fuel he was using before -not a bad improvement!
