A bit of appreciation for our apprentices. Storm and Tom have been smashing through their coursework and are now nearly six months ahead, a huge effort on top of their day‑to‑day work in the Kauri workshop.

They show up, work hard, ask the right questions, and genuinely care about learning the trade properly. The whole team is proud of the progress they’re making.

Spring means the boats are coming out and the ramps will get busy fast. Before you hook up, make sure your safety chains match your trailer weight. 🔗

Chain basics:
• 0–2,000kg: one rated chain
• 2,001–2,500kg: two rated chains, crossed
• 2,501–3,500kg: breakaway system preferred, or two correctly rated crossed chains

Chains shouldn’t drag, twist, or be held on with makeshift hardware.

Rats! 🐀

This one came in on a tow truck after it suddenly stopped running, a quick look under the bonnet and the injector wiring was chewed to bits. Something had clearly been snacking.

Now that we’re into spring, rodents start moving back outdoors, but they’re also heading into peak breeding season. That means they’re hunting for easy food sources and warm spots to nest and farm vehicles are perfect real estate.

Keep those bait stations topped up, and have a think about what’s stored in the shed beside where you park. Feed, seed and rubbish left open are basically an invitation.

One hungry visitor can leave you stranded. A quick tidy‑up now saves a costly repair later.

For our older vehicles that we're often driving around as the run about, the WoF cycle hasn’t changed. Light vehicles aged 14–26 years still need an annual WoF.

The new system has a few moving parts depending on age and vehicle type, so if you’re not sure where yours fits, we’ve put together a clear guide that explains the changes coming in from 1 November 2026.
