MYTH: Electric trailer brakes need an in-cab controller.

Not anymore. πŸ‘Œ

Traditionally, electric trailer brakes meant having a brake controller installed inside your tow vehicle, which wasn't always ideal if you wanted to use the trailer with more than one vehicle.

That's why our electric brake setups use a drawbar-mounted proportional brake controller instead.

The controller lives on the trailer, not in your vehicle, and automatically applies the trailer brakes in proportion to how hard you're slowing down.

That means there's no need to install a separate brake controller in every vehicle you want to tow with. Hook up, plug in and you're good to go.

It's especially handy for businesses, clubs or families where the same trailer might regularly be towed by different vehicles.

Electric brakes come standard on our braked trailer setups because they're simple to use, low maintenance and make swapping tow vehicles easy.

One trailer. Different tow vehicles. No in-cab controller required.

Take the workshop on the road. πŸ”§

When you've got a lot of gear to carry, chucking it all in the back is one thing. Being able to actually find what you need when you get there is another. πŸ˜…

Custom shelving can turn an enclosed trailer into a proper mobile setup, designed around the tools, boxes and equipment you use every day.

Everything has its place, everything travels securely, and when you arrive at the job, you're ready to get stuck in.

No digging through piles of gear looking for that one thing you swear you packed. πŸ˜‚

Your gear. Your setup. Built around the way you work. πŸ‘Œ

Back it like a pro. 😎

Let's be honest, reversing a big enclosed trailer is a whole lot easier when you can actually see what's going on behind you.

Adding a reversing camera gives you a clear view out the back, making it easier to line up where you're going, keep an eye on obstacles and take some of the guesswork out of those tighter spots.

Especially handy when there's no helpful mate standing behind you waving their arms around giving completely incomprehensible directions. πŸ˜‚

A simple add-on that can make a big difference every time you tow.

This is what NZ made looks like.

No imported trailer shells. No flat-pack frames being bolted together.

Every KT Trailer is manufactured right here in our Tauranga workshop, from the chassis and steel framework through to cladding, doors, fit-out and those final finishing touches.

It means we're involved in every stage of the build, and when you ask us to customise something, we're not trying to make it fit an off-the-shelf trailer. We're building the trailer around what you need from the ground up.

A bit more grinding, welding and dirty hands behind the scenes... but that's how we like it. πŸ’ͺ

MYTH: Bigger trailer = better trailer.

Not always. πŸ‘‡

It's tempting when you're ordering a trailer to think, "I may as well go a bit bigger... just in case."

And if you're going to use that extra space, absolutely. There's nothing worse than outgrowing a trailer six months after you bought it.

But bigger also means more weight to tow, a larger trailer to manoeuvre and store, and potentially stepping up into a different axle or braking setup, not to mention the extra cost.

Sometimes a well-thought-out smaller trailer with shelving and storage designed specifically around your gear will actually work better than simply adding more empty floor space.

The sweet spot is having enough room for what you need, with a little space to grow, without hauling around more trailer than you'll ever use.

That's why one of the first things we want to know when you're planning a custom build is what you're actually putting in it.

Because the best trailer isn't necessarily the biggest one.

It's the one that fits the job. πŸ‘Œ

Haul the gear. Then get to work. πŸ”§

A fold-down workbench is one of those simple additions that adds a whole lot of flexibility to a work trailer.

Fold it up and you've got a handy workspace for tools, repairs, paperwork or whatever the job calls for.

Done? Fold it back against the wall and you've got your floor space back.

No bulky permanent bench taking up valuable room, just a workspace when you need it and cargo space when you don't.

Simple idea. Seriously handy. πŸ‘Œ

When you've got a lot of gear to carry, every bit of space counts. πŸ‘Œ

This setup doesn't stop at what's inside the trailer.

A front-mounted storage box gives you extra space for the smaller stuff, while the ladder and roof racks take care of those long, awkward loads that just aren't going to fit inside.

Timber, ladders, lengths of pipe... chuck them up top and keep that valuable cargo space free for everything else.

Add the mud tyres underneath and this one's well set up for getting the gear where it needs to go β€” even when the job takes you off the tarmac. πŸ’ͺ

Built to haul some serious gear. πŸ’ͺ

This one was designed with loading, securing and protecting the gear in mind.

Internal tie-down rails give plenty of flexibility when it comes to strapping everything down, while plywood lining adds another layer of protection for the inside of the trailer.

External wheel guards keep the wheel arches out of the cargo space, giving you a nice, uninterrupted floor inside β€” and the fold-down rear door makes getting the heavy stuff in and out easy.

A proper workhorse, built around the job it's there to do. πŸ‘Œ
