Next Friday, we are proud to be hosting not one but TWO qualifying races for the inaugural running of the VS Equine East Coast Challenge final to be held on Gr.1 Livamol Classic Day at Hawke's Bay Racing.

What is the VS Equine East Coast Challenge you ask?

It is an exciting new feature for the coming season – the Vet Services Equine East Coast Challenge Special Conditions Maiden Series, culminating in the inaugural final with a stake of $100,000 on Livamol Classic Raceday - Saturday 10 October 2026 during the Colliers Hawke’s Bay Spring Racing Carnival.

With two Maiden races programmed for next Friday’s Two Mile Bay Sailing Club raceday, over 1200m and 1400m, this is your opportunity to get involved!

The first horse home in each qualifying race will be exempt from the ballot for the Final, so there’s plenty to play for!

We couldn't have wished for a better day (ok, maybe slightly warmer weather), for the running of our inaugural Listed Chittick Family Fillies Classic. Thank you to all those who attended, supported, sponsored and were involved in making our raceday a success!

How impressive was Fortunato?! 🤩 He made the perfect start to his racing career with a stylish victory in the Poverty Bay Turf Club 3YO C&G SW+P 1100m.

Settled at the rear of the field, he picked his way through the runners before producing a powerful finish to get up on the line and defeat a strong field of 3YO boys. Co-trainer Guy Lowry mentioned that bigger targets could be in store for Fortunato, but for now, it’s a wait-and-see game.

It was also fantastic to have co-breeder Sam Williams from Little Avondale Stud on course to witness the flashy son of Per Incanto make his winning debut.

This race — and raceday — has been a great starting point for many talented horses. Remember the 2024 Gr.1 2000 Guineas winner Savaglee?! He used this exact race to kick off his campaign before going on to win multiple stakes races, including the Guineas.
