The little Daihatsu ran the last round of the Taupo Car Club winter series clubman racing today. All was going well until I picked up a noise that turned out to be a noisy wheel bearing. Considering what I put it through, it's held up pretty well!

Was great to get out and test the new Haltech iC7 dash. Sooo much data! And programmable warnings. The fuel gauge is a lot more accurate than the factory one and I quickly learnt the minimum amount of fuel to start a race with (whoops).

Time for some attention, and maybe hunt for some more power...

Racing Brake Fluid

Everyone wants confidence when they hit the brake pedal in their track or race car.

One of the first places to start is your Brake Fluid.

We carry a number of products to have you covered.
The most popular is the Motul RBF fluid range.
RBF600, RBF660 and RBF 700 are always on our shelves and are all DOT4 rated making them an ideal replacement in almost all braking systems.

Whats the difference?
The higher the boiling point the more resistant to temperature the fluid will be. The “dry” boiling point is the effectiveness of the fluid straight from the bottle. “Wet” boiling point is an industry figure for when fluid has been in a system for a while and absorbed some moisture (3.7% in fact).
RBF600 - 312°C dry 205°C wet
RBF660 - 325°C dry 204°C wet
RBF700 - 336°C dry 205°C wet

The performance gain is with fresh fluid that has had little opportunity to absorb moisture, hence why it is so important to keep fresh brake fluid in your car. The bigger and faster your car is the more heat energy your brake system typically generates. (Braking is conversion of kinetic energy to heat energy).

A lot of light weight track cars with simple brake systems we typically use RBF600.

Heavier or faster road cars on a standard system or high performance pad, RBF660 is the right step up and is capable for more high performance road cars (Think Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren 720s, Ferrari 488 etc)

For racing applications where the brakes are constantly being used over and over again for hours on end, like our GT3, Cup and GT4 cars we look to RBF700 to get the job done.

🏁 Big News Announcement! 🏁

From December Newport Motorsport Services will be winding up its operations. But fear not! I'm incredibly excited to share that I'll be joining Prime Speed Sport, with a new branch, based at Taupo Motorsport Park.

I would like to thank those who have supported me with Newport Motorsport Services. Your trust, loyalty, and passion for racing has been amazing.

Obviously the journey doesn't end here! I'm super excited to be bringing Prime Speed Sport to Taupo. We will be building a facility to offer the full service you may be after, from a basic service to a full race set up. I'm eager to continue delivering top-notch service and performance for you.

I hope to carry forward our valued relationship in this new setting. Your ongoing support means everything to me, and I look forward to welcoming you at our new location!

Good morning play at the track. Finally managed to take Dad and Wifey for a few laps which was fun. It was the first real test of the oil cooler and breather upgrades, and all worked well. Nice to leave the track without knowing there's problems!

Managed to get the little Daihatsu out for a run last Sunday, a good test after some suspension changes. Dropped over 1.5 seconds on track 2. Still more to come, I really need to drop a tyre size to try keep the engine in a more usable rev range. I was also nursing the motor, as when holding high revs it started to pull oil in though the breathers and the oil sloshes through 2 & 3 causing pressure drop. Always good fun having a strop on a nice day

Recently we had a neat little Es**rt in which was sadly a bit of a typical older racecar, where over the years many things had been added, then added some more, then some more. While some engine work was being completed it was decided to give it a proper tidy up and be made more reliable again.

After stripping it down so many issues were found that had been patched such as melted harnesses, and the fuse box which would short on the exhaust shielding. There was even an old alarm giving another potential for raceday failure.

Everything was replaced and proper sleeving installed. Proper circuit protection added and the factory fusebox relocated into the cabin away from potential shorts. After fixing the wiring also noticed was the poor fitment of the harnesses so while there that was also put right.

For those that didn't know, I'm a Haltech dealer. If you want an ECU for your project or racecar it doesn't get much better than a Haltech. The capability of the ECU and the availability of systems and products to expand is endless. I had the job of installing an Elite 1000 into a KE70 wagon running a turbo'd 4AGE 20V. The dash was also fitted and a range of sensors for tuning and engine protection were also added.

Here we have the knowledge and skill to produce a high quality harness, with long term planning in mind for future changes. Also the ability to complete the initial configuration and programming to have the car happily running ready to dyno to save your tuner time and you money when its dyno time.

Hard to believe I joined up with Prime Speed Sport in only January this year. What a year its been. Super cool bunch of guys, both the drivers/car owners and the crew. Phil's done an awesome job of putting together a team that's clicked super well. We work bloody hard but have an absolute blast while doing it. Look forward to next weekends NZ Enduro final at Highlands, tie off the year with a good one!
