Honouring the Legacy of Brian MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Brian MacDonald and reflect on the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. Brian’s vision, determination and entrepreneurial spirit helped shape Fairfax Industries into the company we know today.

When Brian and Bob Dorling acquired Fairfax in 1973, Brian saw opportunities where others saw challenges. Through innovation, hard work and an unwavering belief in the future of fibreglass transport solutions, he transformed Fairfax Industries into a pioneering force within New Zealand’s trailer manufacturing industry. From introducing revolutionary monocoque fibreglass construction to expanding into new markets and products, Brian’s leadership helped establish Fairfax as a trusted and respected name in the industry.

Brian’s success was built on more than innovation alone. He was known for his integrity, strong customer relationships and ability to bring people on board with a vision that was often ahead of its time. Those qualities continue to define Fairfax today.

As we reflect on Brian’s contribution, we are reminded that his legacy lives on in every project we deliver, every relationship we build, and every innovation we pursue. The values he championed, including quality, trust, ingenuity and a willingness to challenge convention, remain at the heart of our business. Today, those principles continue to guide us as we build on the strong foundation Brian created and carry his vision forward into the future.

Thank you, Brian, for your leadership, your pioneering spirit and the lasting impact you have had on Fairfax Industries and our industry as a whole. Your legacy lives on through the company you helped build and the people who continue your vision every day.

The Fairfax ZE isn’t just proving what’s possible, it’s proving what works.

While our first Fairfax ZE has now been operating on New Zealand roads for two years, the second joined the Big Chill fleet around this time last year, and the results speak for themselves.

In just 12 months of real-world operation, the Big Chill Fairfax ZE has achieved:
⚡ 5,205kg estimated CO₂ emissions saved
⚡ 23.24kg average CO₂ emissions saved per day
⚡ 1,353 hours of operation

These aren’t projected figures or controlled testing environments. They’re real results from a Fairfax ZE working day in, day out for a New Zealand transport operator.

As more operators look towards lower-emission transport solutions, it’s exciting to see the Fairfax ZE continuing to demonstrate that sustainable innovation and real-world performance can go hand in hand.

Sometimes it’s the simple traditions that bring people together.

This Matariki, the Fairfax team fired up the BBQ, stepped away from the workshop for a while and enjoyed the chance to catch up over a great lunch.

Taking time to reflect, share a meal and appreciate the people around us is something we value, and Matariki is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

From the Fairfax team to you and your whānau, we hope you had a wonderful Matariki. ✨

Clouds and blue skies were definitely paid actors today. ☀️
Days like this make it hard to walk past the mould shop without stopping for a look.

Lined up and getting ready for life on the road, these Fairfax Premiere units are the result of countless hours of design, engineering and craftsmanship. While they may look impressive on the outside, it’s what’s built into them that really sets them apart, from seamless one-piece moulded construction and Fairfax Superfloor technology to industry-leading thermal efficiency designed specifically for New Zealand conditions.

Before long, they’ll be travelling the country helping Kiwi businesses keep things moving. But today, they’re enjoying their moment in the sun.😎
