Christchurch is quietly one of the best cities in the country and most people breeze right past it.

It rebuilt itself into something new: street art down the laneways, botanic gardens in the middle of town, and a food and coffee scene that punches well above its size. open road is only minutes from the centre.

The ones who give it a day or two always walk away surprised.

Hokitika Gorge is one of those places that stops you in your tracks.

The water is this unreal shade of blue, milky and bright all at once, tucked between the rocks and the rainforest like it’s hiding from everyone.

You wander the little trail, cross the swing bridge, and every turn opens up to something greener and quieter than the last.
