function is to provide elite and specialised shoring equipment and assistance. We provide delivery options, onsite help, shield adjustment and advice. Trenchmate continues to exceed tough compliance, health and safety considerations, and in doing this we have created the strongest, safest and most versatile range of shoring solutions. Trenchmate shields and versa products, unlike one-off shields, are designed for compatibility to provide a range of solutions, you can use different strut widths, add extensions or additional shields to accommodate different requirements. Meet Jag, our Territory Manager for North/ West Auckland and Northland who loves making a difference on site. With nearly three years at Trenchmate and experience working around civil projects, he brings practical know-how, calm problem-solving, and a “keep it simple, get it done” approach to every job.

Q. How long have you worked at Trenchmate, and what got you into it?
A. Almost three years as a truck driver, mostly supporting civil projects – moving materials, coordinating with crews, and understanding how jobs really run. I wanted a hands-on career where I could see real, standout results.

Q. Favourite part of the job?
A. Solving problems and making a real difference – it’s awesome that Trenchmate’s mission is to keep crews safe when they’re working in deep trenches.

Q. What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about what we do?
A. People are usually surprised how much engineering and planning goes into our shoring – ground conditions, depth, width and ground pressure – it all has to be right before you even put a box in the ground. Our products keep people safe and jobs running.

Q. Customer service philosophy?
A. Make things easy for the customer: clear communication, no mucking around, and get them what they need on time.

Q. Project you’re proud of?
A. A complex trenching job with stormwater, sewer, and live services all in one trench. Litemate sheet piles and careful planning kept everything running smoothly, and the client was stoked.

If you’re one of our customers, you’ve probably had truck driver Garry Grewal roll on to you site at some point in the last three years. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better (and yes, that’s a built-in seat he’s sitting on!):

Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: Facing different tasks every day – loading and unloading in tight sites and improving my skills. I also get to enjoy some amazing North Island views out of my office window.

Q: Tell us about your immaculate truck…
A: It’s all about professionalism and passion. My truck is like my second home, and I don’t like driving it dirty. We never park up dirty after the day’s work – we wash it daily. And one rule: NO DIRTY BOOTS INSIDE THE CAB.

Q: What's your favourite lunch, snack, or drink?
A: I mostly eat Indian food and like a caramel latte. I don’t drink energy drinks but I love a chilled beer after work.

Q: What will we find you doing outside of work?
A: I enjoy travelling, but most of the time I’m at home with my family. I’m married and have a 3-year-old son who is obsessed with trucks – most of his toys are trucks!
