✈️ AVIATION RESTORATION & CORROSION PROTECTION

Another specialised aviation project underway for Zero6 Aviation Ltd at Kiwi ShineWorX.

These components from a Piper PA-18-150 Super Cub – ZK-LAM came to us showing deterioration of the existing coatings and areas of corrosion requiring attention.

The process involved removal of the old paint and coating systems, careful preparation of the exposed metal surfaces, followed by the appropriate metal pretreatment, aviation-approved primers and top coats.

The smaller brackets, fittings and components received the same attention as the larger struts and assemblies - because with aircraft work, the details matter.

The aim wasn’t simply to make these components look good again. Proper preparation and coating provides an important protective barrier against the environment and helps prevent further deterioration.

Our process included:
• Removal of failed/aged coatings
• Corrosion removal and surface preparation
• Metal pretreatment
• Aviation-approved primer system
• Aviation-approved top coats
• Individual refinishing of brackets, fittings and larger components
• Careful attention to coating coverage and finish

⚠️ WARNING: Your New Vehicle’s Paint May Be Thinner Than You Think…

And here’s the scary part…

Many vehicles are being machine polished every day, with groomers, detailing, dealership companies, and then the backyard bandits 🎰 without anyone knowing how much paint they’re actually removing.

We’ve recently measured two factory-painted vehicles.

🚗 2020 European vehicle: Approximately 95–110 microns
Realistically:
✅ 3–5 heavy corrections over the life of the vehicle, assuming the paint hasn’t already been significantly polished or repaired.
✅ Many more light enhancement polishes (provided paint thickness is monitored).

🚗 2026 Japanese vehicle: As little as 52–73 microns
❌ Japanese manufactured vehicles are often only able to handle One heavy correction in the vehicle’s lifetime.

That’s nearly half the paint thickness.

Yet many vehicles are treated exactly the same.

Same compound.
Same pad.
Same machine.
Same process.

No measurements.
No assessment.
No evidence.

Just hope.

Every time a machine polish is performed, paint is permanently removed.

It doesn’t grow back.

It can’t be polished back on.

Once the protective clearcoat is gone, the only permanent repair is repainting.

The recent heavy rain completely waterlogged this ute's carpet, risking hidden mould and future electrical failure.
