Crushers Nation 💙🧡🖤

Our fifth driver for our 🏁 Meet the Driver Mondays 🏁 series is the 151 of Wade Sweeting! 💥

An engineer by trade, Wade has been a valued part of the Crushers for the past handful of seasons. He’s been at the top of his game on the track, bringing speed, consistency, and plenty of determination every time he races.

Off the track, if you hear drum and bass pumping from the trailer, chances are Wade’s nearby! He always keeps the tunes going and helps create the great atmosphere 🎶

So let’s get to know him just that little better!

1. How did you get into racing?
Dad was pit crewing for a mate at the local Blenheim speedway track and took me along, I think I was 6 or 7 at the time. That led to being the Titans mascot, then youth ministocks and eventually stockcars

2. What’s your favourite track to race on and why?
Nelson Speedway because it’s a horsepower equaliser with the smaller corners & straights

3. What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
Have to wear my lucky un**es that have some slight wear and tear holes

4. What was the moment you knew you wanted to race stockcars ?
It would have to be watching the Eastern States Titans teams race from a young age, I admired how much fun they had off the track and how they backed each other up on the track

5. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you at the track?
Definitely spewing in my helmet on day 2 of King of the Coast after getting first night fever at the Rec, I’d also like to blame George Watson for this

6. If your stockcar had a theme song, what would it be?
Money pit

7. What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about you?
I like Coronas & pokies

8. Which race win or achievement are you most proud of?
1NZ Teams 2026 with the Crushers

9. If you weren’t racing stockcars, what sport or hobby would you be doing instead?
Hopefully something cheaper like tennis

10. What’s your goal for the up and coming of this season?
Defend our NZ Teams title at home with the Crushers and Get better than 4th at the individual NZ’s in Whanganui

Crushers Nation 💙🧡🖤

Our fourth driver for our 🏁 Meet the Driver Mondays 🏁 series is 374 Dave Houston Jr!

“Housty” brings plenty of teams racing experience to the Crushers, having previously raced with the Greymouth Grizzlies. His commitment to the sport is second to none, making the trip from Greymouth to Christchurch most weekends just to go racing.

Here’s his answers to the question to really get to know him better!

1. How did you get into racing?
One of my best mates ( Sean brown ) his old man raced modifieds and was the president of Greymouth club, would go to racing with him and always dreamed about wanting to do it. The. Got offered a drive at 16 on a ministock then moved to stockcars a couple years later.

2. What’s your favourite track to race on and why?
Rotorua! Love the grand parade, always teams raced there so not as many laps as I’d like. Also mean having a b**r watching the world 240s in the club rooms

3. What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
Nothings pre race, but I will never pack up until after race 3 is finished, incase I break the car as I’ve done in the past

4. What was the moment you knew you wanted to race stockcars ?
It was the progression from ministocks and superstocks seemed a lifetime away, but watching super stock teams and battle of the stocks as a kid I just wanted to do that.

5. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you at the track?
Hmmm that’s a hard one, probably when I got board one race and had a crack at dad when he raced and I ended up on my on my lid in front of my mates. I even made the poster for Greymouth that year 😓

6. If your stockcar had a theme song, what would it be?
Uhm anything I can headband or drink to.

7. What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about you?
I have 3 plates and 14 screws holding my shoulder and pelvis together

8. Which race win or achievement are you most proud of?
TEAMS!! To be apart of the crushers and the 1st South Island team to do it, is just the best, and doing it with my family and best mates is unbeatable

9. If you weren’t racing stockcars, what sport or hobby would you be doing instead? Playing league! Love the Cronulla Sharks 🦈

10. What’s your goal for the up and coming of this season?
After last season terrible individual results, I just want to get some consistency and finish up the pointy end. And I want to be apart of the Cando Crushers to defend the championship at home…. So much for retirement eh

Crushers Nation 💙🧡🖤

Our third driver for our 🏁 Meet the Driver Mondays 🏁 series doesn’t need much of an introduction—his beard speaks for itself! Introducing our very own 317 Jay “Huggies” Holtham. 🧔🏁

A true veteran of teams racing, Huggies has years of experience behind the wheel and was the driving force behind bringing this team together. He’s the glue that keeps the Crushers ticking both on and off the track, and there’s no one better to have leading the charge.

Now it’s time to get to know the man behind the beard a little better!

1. How did you get into racing?
My father raced well before I was born, then he progressed into scruitoneering and also was the manager of the Baypark Busters around 93/94 I believe So naturally he got me a ministock and created the obsession.

2. What’s your favourite track to race on and why?
Most tracks that are slick. Woodford Glen and Rotorua are challenging which is enjoyable.

3. What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
I don’t really have any. I always get a couple power aids. There was a time we had a good run in Supers and decided it was a Green hoodie thing, so I wore a green hoodie for the season.

4. What was the moment you knew you wanted to race stockcars?
I think I always did. I remember Dad peeling the stickers of the Orange Buster wings and bonnets at home when I was about 5 and I would lay them out and put old Gokart seats in them and pretend I was racing.

5. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you at the track?
There’s plenty. The boys tried puting the wing on backwards at NZ Supers in Nelson, that was a giggle. Some of the hori patch ups we’ve done to get back out for another teams race are questionable.

6. If your stockcar had a theme song, what would it be?
Smoooooth Criminal.

7. What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about you?
I almost enjoy tinkering with setup and geometry more then racing itself. Or the fact I’m a country music nerd.

8. Which race win or achievement are you most proud of?
Teams racing for our club as a whole is really special. Winning Stockcar Teams was probably my highlight. Just with the amount of effort I’ve done for the team. When we won with the Eagles, those wheels were already in motion.

9. If you weren’t racing stockcars, what sport or hobby would you be doing instead?
I’d love to give Mods a go one day. There’s plenty of sports or activities I’d like to get into post racing like golf, fishing etc. Standard Dad stuff.

10. What’s your goal for the up and coming of this season?
To make the teams in both classes. To win Stockcar Teams at home and Teams Champs in Palmy in the same year would be amazing.

Crushers Nation 💙🧡🖤

We hope you enjoyed getting to know our Captain last Monday!

Next up in our 🏁 Meet the Driver Mondays 🏁 series is our youngest member of the team, the 197 of Sam Jack! 💥

From only just a few seasons ago racing productions and ministocks to being apart of the team to win 1NZ in his debut season, let’s get to know Sam a little better.

1. How did you get into racing?
Followed Dad and my Grandad racing circuit cars up and down the south island. Then was thrown the keys to have a go at grasskhana at 13 and got hooked

2. What’s your favourite track to race on and why?
Woodford Glen. Love dive bombing into turn three and the easy tow for the mighty nav

3. What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
Gotta brush my teeth

4. What was the moment you knew you wanted to race stockcars ?
Don't think there was a defining moment, probably just always going to watch. Sitting in Ken Meehans' car when I was smaller definitely helped

5. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you at the track?
Having the bonnet fly open on the Production saloon at the end of the front straight was pretty funny or loosing a shoe somewhere on my way home from the NZ teams champs.

6. If your stockcar had a theme song, what would it be?
Not a clue but if it's based on the first half of last season Break stuff by limp bizkit but the second half would be Buisness time by Flight of the concords

7. What’s one thing fans would be surprised to learn about you?
Won the Canterbury football championship once upon a time

8. Which race win or achievement are you most proud of?
Being apart of NZ Teams was unreal. And racing with Tom (my brother) at the Rees tour in his first stockcar meeting was a special moment

9. If you weren’t racing stockcars, what sport or hobby would you be doing instead?
Not sure. I reckon traveling would be fun but most likely racing something else

10. What’s your goal for the up and coming of this season?
Enjoy it and defend teams on our home turf 💪🏽
