We are committed to road safety and this is brilliant. If you know any young drivers, forward this to them.
In 2022 alone, over 3000 crashes were attributed to drivers under 25, resulting in 93 tragic fatalities and over 4000 injuries, including 636 serious ones.
Since 2020, 351 individuals under 25 years of age have died on New Zealand roads. Among them was seventeen-year-old Kelan Stroud, who was killed in a devastating three-vehicle accident in the Cromwell Gorge this past March.
Kelan's family made a decision to turn his passing into a life-saving cause and launched a Give a Little campaign, raising over $20,000 from generous businesses and individuals to support young drivers through practical education and experience.
Since its launch in 2018, Street Smart has helped over 2000 young drivers through a practical, hands-on, cognitive-based driver programme. Now, thanks to the support of the Tony Quinn Foundation Road Safety and V8 Supercars, the programme will resume over school holiday periods, beginning today at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.
With every course delivery, Kelan's story will live on, honouring his legacy and saving the lives of young Kiwis on New Zealand's roads.
