If you need to temporarily tape up a window or roof vent, please don't use any tape containing fibres if you can avoid it. And if you must, get to where you are going and swap it out for something else. Not only will it save us a lot of labour scrubbing it, but it will save your paint and your pocket in time savings.

As we are all painfully aware, costs in the last few years have just kept rising, and we have done our absolute best to keep those price increases from impacting our customers.
But we also need to keep ourselves afloat and our staff happy and healthy, so we are going to be raising a few of our prices.

Before doing so, we checked around as many other caravan repairers as showed their rates, so that we could see what the average rates were. And we were definitely far cheaper than most repairers.

So, from the 1st of September:
our labour rate will be $126.50 an hour including GST
an annual service check will be $400 including GST.

If we are in the middle of a job for you right now? Don't worry we will be keeping the old pricing for that job.
If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.

Thanks, Caravanland.

Another day another floor being rescued from moisture, Cap wanted to point out how much wood we actually replace when we do these jobs.
So as you can see from his example stick, we basically remove all the rotten wood until it looks fresh like the final photo. We replace the pieces cut away with nice fresh wood, then reseal the entire repair area.

And one more slightly easier public service announcement.

Please do remember to include appropriate accessories when you drop your caravan off for repairs. If you need a Warrant of Electrical Fitness we need the power cables you will actually use with the van, if we are testing your gas appliances we need your full gas bottle, if it's water or self containment we need your toilet cassettes, grey water and fresh water barrels and any pumps.

This just makes it much faster for us and the external contractors we use for compliance testing. Which in turn means we can get your van back to you without any delays.

This one is a bit of a story really... our customer had bought the van a few years ago and came to us with the described fault of "My caravan doesn't go in reverse".

Upon disassembly we discovered that the entire brake system was essentially neat piles of dust and metal filings.
For a brake reverse on a drum brake to work it relies on the brake pads and drum to be in good health, unfortunately there was not much left of his.

The slightly scary thing about all of this was that it had received a warrant of fitness while in this state, since the tester would have applied a handbrake to the spinning tire to ensure it stops... what he didn't know because he hadn't accessed the visual inspection port... was that it was only stopping as a metal-on-metal response to the handbrake being pulled.

The lesson in this one is, just because a caravan has a current warrant of fitness or you've just purchased it, it doesn't always mean everything is perfect. Have your warrant inspector check visually that your pads are in good shape or give your new van a brake refresher if you are not sure. A new set of pads is definitely cheaper and more importantly safer than the costs to replace the entire braking system.
