โš™๏ธ Thereโ€™s always grease on the hands and passion in the shed on a Tuesday morning. Behind the scenes at the Museum, our volunteer team is busy keeping the vehicle collection in top shape.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Gavin Harris and Tick Reid currently have the hood up on a classic blue Mk1 Ford Es**rt, working to get it running smoothly.

๐Ÿ›ป Parked right alongside them is a beautifully preserved 1948 Riley RMB. This post-war British classic features a distinct fabric-covered roof over a handcrafted timber-framed body, powered by a high-performance twin-cam "Big Four" engine.

Itโ€™s the dedication of volunteers like Gavin and Tick that keeps these historic machines alive and operating.

Come down and explore the collection.

๐Ÿ›ž 1952 Series 1 Land Rover ๐Ÿ›ž

๐Ÿ›ž Made in England in 1952 and brought over for the NZ Army in March 1953, this Series 1 served as a military vehicle until being put up for auction in 1973. Purchased by local lad Ron Lay in 1973 to use as his everyday farm vehicle.

๐Ÿ›ž With the vehicle straight to work, the easily removable, double-hinged doors proved incredibly handy, making catching sheep and lambs a breeze. However, forgetting to drop that passenger door back onto its hinges was a lesson Ron learnt the hard way the day he came face-to-face with an angry bull. The bull stuck its massive head straight through the open side, nearly reaching Ron in the driver's seat - itโ€™s a memory still not forgotten!

๐Ÿ›ž The Landy wasn't just for work; it went on plenty of hunting adventures in the Rangitata and Rakaia gorges, alongside ski trips in the 1970s. Tired of dealing with skis sticking out the back, Ron had a custom hardtop made to mount a ski rack to, since local "keas" had also "ripped the canvas to pieces."

๐Ÿ›ž In 2005, the Land Rover had a full restoration, detailed with a genuine soft top made in England. Not becoming a polished showpiece just to sit around; Ron took it straight back out to work on a dairy farm, serving as a farm hack and everyday runner.

๐Ÿ›ž After driving it for over half a century, Ron has recently retired both himself and the Land Rover, generously donating it to the Geraldine Vintage Car and Machinery Museum Club.
Thank you Ron.

Come check it out - the 1952 Series 1 is now on display.

โš™๏ธ Clarktor ECT-120
Its brass ID plate confirms it is a 1943 model, built in Battle Creek, Michigan. From 1945 onwards, zinc or aluminium plates were used due to wartime metal shortages.

E-Electric | C-Clark | T-Tructractor

120 - Drawbar Pull: 12,000 lbs

โš“๏ธŽ This means this old workhorse didn't start its life at the port - it likely served on a military airfield during World War II before being brought to NZ as "war surplus."

๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ From towing heavy bombers to shunting massive rail wagons at the Timaru Wharf, this machine has spent over 80 years doing the heavy lifting. Still solid cast iron and still full of history!

While weโ€™re busy painting the back wall of the Classic Car Building, our Reliant Robin has been relocated to the Ashburton Vintage Car Club.

It turned out to be a case of the right place at the right time - as its temporary spot in Ashburton put it front and centre for the recent TVNZ Breakfast filming.

Thanks to Colin Sweetman for coordinating this cross-club move while our renovations are underway.

๐Ÿšจ The 1907 Alldays & Onions has some new company!

โš™๏ธ Special thanks to our incredibly talented member and modest engineer, Alastair Sabiston. With a clever bit of Kiwi ingenuity, Alastair has designed and built a sensor-driven mechanism that brings our display to life - setting the matching miniature replica spinning as you walk past.

Itโ€™s a brilliant way to take in every detail of these beautiful machines (especially those red leather seats!).

๐Ÿฃ We are OPEN TODAY- Good Friday

๐Ÿšจ NEW EXHIBIT

โš™๏ธ Our "Spare Parts CEO" David Saunders has been busy in his store and turned up a real treasure - a Millers Falls Boring Machine.

โš™๏ธ David has given it a thorough overhaul, cleaning it right down until itโ€™s working as freely as the day it was made.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ This American gem dates to the company's "Golden Age" (1880-1900) in Massachusetts, where they were the world leader in hand-cranked technology.

โš™๏ธ The operator would sit on the wooden base to steady the machine while cranking the dual handles to sink massive auger bits into hardwood for timber framing.

โš™๏ธ Itโ€™s even got a "quick-return" mechanism, with a flip of the lever, the gears reverse to spirally "launch" the bit back out of the hole, saving the operatorโ€™s strength for the next task.

Now on display up on the mezzanine floor.

๐Ÿฃ We are OPEN TODAY AND ALL LONG EASTER WEEKEND 9.30am-4pm ๐Ÿฃ

๐Ÿฐ Bob's been busy testing out the latest in "high-performance" vintage fitness. It might not have a V8 engine, but itโ€™s definitely carbon-neutral and great for working off those hot cross buns!

So come on down and see if you can out-pace Bob. We promise our other exhibits move a little faster (mostly).
