We're now a team of two! Richard started in the workshop a couple of weeks ago, it's awesome seeing how much work we can get through with two pairs of hands on the job. It should make all the difference to getting jobs out over the spring/summer season. I've got lots of exciting projects in the pipeline for the end of this year and into 2027, the ball is rolling and it's exciting!

This YZ250F cylinder head must have gotten pretty hot at some stage. Customer had the engine to bits because of a failed waterpump shaft and blown headgasket. I'm guessing the shaft failed and the bike overheated. It's subsequently blown the gasket. It might anger the keyboard warriors that there are two valves installed. If a customer is on a budget then I will accommodate where I can, the important thing is the head is now flat and this bike should live to see anther day!

Dragged the bucket out of the shop last week. Nearly time to blow the dust off the riding boots and melt some rubber. If anyone is interested in Miniature Road Racing in Dunedin let me know, I'm happy to help navigate new riders into racing.

This week has been a bit up and down, I've been fighting off a cold. Had to take a day off midweek, but managed to get a couple of jobs done. KTM EXC300 crank rebuild, PW50 starter gear repair, and got some doors on the dyno room. It's fun finding new uses for the milling machine đŸ˜…

Another couple of weeks roll past... there's quite a bit going on here. I've got a part time mechanic starting next month and I've been trying to get prepped for that to happen, new workbench, re-arranged the workshop, a second hoist. It's a little daunting but it's defiantly going to be a good thing. How quickly I can turnover work has been my achilleas heal so hopefully an extra pair of hands with solve some of the problem, and keep everyone happy over what I'm hoping is going to be a very busy summer season!

Last couple of weeks has been pretty busy, I thought winter would be a quiet time for me just going off past experience working in bike shops... this winter - that hasn't been the case, not that I'm complaining! Some work on an MT09, modified a set of ZX14 forks to take an ABS pickup to replace some rooted ones on a ZG1400, and a service on a RE Shotgun. That and the rest of the stuff I didn't stop to get my camera out for!

Honda with shifting issues - made up a "new" shaft out one I had in stock with a good mechanism and an XR200 spline. The CB500 spines seem to be really soft, I had about 3 shafts all with mushed splines. A bit of effort required to get it stuck together but well worth it, it shifts really well now!

Lots going on here the last couple of weeks! One of todays jobs was rebuilding this Honda crankshaft after one of the main bearings failed, the small end was pretty pooed so the conrod needed replacing. I've also been looking around for a new work truck and ended up going for a test drive in this little Daihatsu. It's a cool little thing, super economical 660cc efi with a surprising amount of bed space!
