What we have here is a magnesium engine case set and gearbox cases from a 1954 Volkswagen Kombi.
In 1954 these magnesium parts would have been coated in a product called Alodine, a corrosion inhibitor that was applied to the exterior.
We were asked if we could replicate the colour in Cerakote.
With no direct colour matching it was time to put some mixology to the test as we were very fortunate to have a spare engine case half that had been sitting in the dark for close on 70 years.

We used a number of colours in the Cerakote H series and had a large number of spray outs as there was no formula to work with and the metallics varied in each colour we were mixing.
After quite a few late nights we (Callum and myself) I finally got to spray the result that you see here.
Great to be involved in what will no
doubt be another stunning restoration.
