Celebrating 30 years of the Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster.

Introduced in 1996, the first-generation R170 redefined the compact luxury roadster with its pioneering Vario-Roof—the world's first production folding steel hardtop. Offering the comfort of a coupé and the freedom of open-top motoring at the touch of a button, it set a new benchmark for the segment.

Powered by engines including the iconic 2.3-litre supercharged SLK 230 Kompressor, delivering 193 hp (142 kW) and 0–100 km/h in around seven seconds, the SLK combined performance, innovation and everyday usability in a way few roadsters had before.

Thirty years on, the SLK remains a milestone in Mercedes-Benz engineering and a true modern classic.
