A1 are the specialists in automotive cooling solutions! In 1979 the business was purchased by Graham Stevens, who is still the Managing Director today.

The company started out servicing radiators and heaters before expanding into radiator core manufacturing in the late 80's. Automotive air conditioning was introduced in the early 90's. Since then we have become a major radiator assembly and radiator core supplier, produce high performance alloy race radiators and we also manufacturer inter-coolers and oil coolers plus supply other items like motorcycle radiators and heaters. The product excels at sealing the often hundreds of pin-hole leaks along seams.
Once in place, Red-Kote forms a tough, flexible membrane that will never crack or flake.
Future rust will be prevented because condensation will not contact the metal.

In our workshop… this is definitely not how to fix a leaking radiator tank!
Good effort from our customer giving it a bit of DIY with black silicone and builders bog, but unfortunately these quick fixes just won’t handle the heat, pressure and vibration a radiator goes through every day.

From the A1 Alloy Fabrication room -
This BMW E30 radiator has been fully recored, with the original tanks and sides carefully removed from the old core, chemically cleaned, and welded onto a brand-new core.
With very limited space available in the engine bay, there was no room for a conventional cooling fan, so a pusher fan was mounted on the grill side of the radiator.
Mike also fabricated custom mounting brackets rather than using pull-through ties through the radiator core, helping prevent potential vibration-related leaks.

Vintage Radiator Manufacturing -

A1 Automotive Cooling are excited to announce we have purchased the original Adrad/National Radiators Vintage Manufacturing plant and are now back in production!

Originally established in the early 1910s, this iconic manufacturing plant is still producing genuine vintage radiator cores using the original tooling and machinery from the era.
Many of the machines are even date stamped “1914” — true OEM equipment from over a century ago.

Along with our CT manufacturing plant, A1 now manufactures both honeycomb and cellular radiator cores, built using authentic period construction techniques.
Every bespoke core is handmade with accurate styling, quality craftsmanship and reliable cooling performance.

We’re excited to welcome Tim to the A1 family!
Tim joins the A1 team after 19 years with Hornby Radiators, bringing a wealth of experience with him. His skills in copper/brass radiators, fuel tanks, vintage work, and radiator in/outs will be a great support to the premium service A1 Automotive Cooling provides to our Canterbury customers.
We’re also looking forward to supporting Tim as he continues to build his skills further in automotive air conditioning, aluminium fabrication and copper/brass core manufacturing, along with the addition of our new vintage honeycomb manufacturing plant.
