This JCB came to us with boost-related fault codes. Once we stripped the turbo, we found severe corrosion inside the turbine housing.
This is usually caused by moisture from condensation during long periods of inactivity or short running, or water entering through the exhaust. Less commonly, coolant entering the exhaust can also be responsible.
The corrosion can restrict or seize the turbo’s variable vanes, preventing it from controlling boost correctly and causing underboost or overboost codes.
The fault code tells you where to look the strip-down shows what’s really going on!
