Dad's idea of a relaxing Father's Day?

Checking the tyre pressures.
Opening the bonnet “just to have a look”.
Checking the oil.
Listening to the engine for absolutely no apparent reason.
Then casually mentioning that the car “doesn't sound quite right”.

Because apparently Father's Day is also an opportunity for a full vehicle inspection and 'tinkering' 😉

To all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures who have been checking everyone else's cars for years - usually without being asked - we hope you get to put your feet up today.

Happy Father's Day.

And Dad… yes, we know you heard that noise too.

A little squeak doesn't always mean your brakes are about to pack it in.
But persistent squealing, grinding, scraping, vibration or changes in how the brake pedal feels shouldn't be ignored.

Your brakes are one part of the car where “I'll see how it goes” isn't a particularly clever strategy.

If something feels or sounds different when you're braking, get it checked.

September is nearly here - time to get your car out of winter mode.

Before the warmer weather properly arrives, give your car a quick once-over:
How are the tyres looking?
Are the wipers still doing their job?
Battery starting strongly?
Lights working?
Brakes feeling normal?
Service up to date?
And when was the last time you actually cleaned all the winter grime off it?

You don't need to become a car enthusiast overnight.

Just paying attention to the basics can go a long way.

And if something doesn't look or feel right, that's where we come in 😊

Your battery doesn't care that spring is nearly here.
And if your battery was already getting tired, winter may have pushed it closer to the edge.

One of the classic signs?
The engine sounds slower than usual when you start the car.
You might also notice dimming lights, electrical oddities or the dreaded click-click-click instead of an actual engine start.

If your battery is getting older and your car has been a little sluggish starting, it's worth getting it checked rather than waiting for the morning you're already late for work.

Because batteries have excellent timing.
(usually terrible timing)

If your car has been slow to start lately, pop in and let us check it.

Your car needs a service.
Your calendar says absolutely not.
We understand.

You've got work.
Meetings.
Shopping.
Appointments.
Things to do.

Finding half a day to sit around waiting for your car isn't exactly high on anyone's wish list.

That's one of the handy things about being right here in Christchurch Central.

Drop your car in the morning, head into work or get on with your day, and pick it up when you're finished.

Car sorted.
Day still moving.
That's what we call a win.

If you're working in the CBD, talk to us about dropping your car off while you get on with your day 😊

Everyone during a WOF:
🙏 Tyres... please be good.
🙏 Lights... please all work.
🙏 Brakes... don't embarrass me.
🙏 Mysterious knocking noise... today is NOT your day.
🙏 Please don't come back holding a clipboard with that look.

And then:
All passed."

Never doubted it.

Who can relate?

🔋 Your 7-minute commute might be harder on your battery than you think.
Drive to work. Park.
Drive home. Park.
A couple of school runs. Quick trip to the supermarket.

It feels like you're barely using the car - so surely the battery should be loving life?

Not necessarily.

Starting your car takes a decent hit of energy from the battery. If most of your journeys are very short, the alternator may not get enough driving time to fully replace what was used starting it.

Add a cold Christchurch morning into the equation and a battery that's already getting tired can suddenly decide Tuesday morning is the perfect time to retire. 🙃

If your car is getting slower to start, don't automatically assume "it started eventually, so it's fine."

That's often your warning.

It's kind of the same, right???
