We love hearing your stories and seeing your photos so today’s spotlight is on one of our past HOG directors and current Southern Legends Helper, Gary Manch.

To start off I guess the question we ask ourselves is when is a Harley Davidson not a Harley Davidson?
And before I start, I will qualify my comments!

I am a passionate Harley-Davidson Owner of 20 years, have owned over 20 Harleys and love the product and people ,it’s been and still is a blast riding my bike. I was active in the HOG club for many years rising to Director and worked at Rolling Thunder for 10 years parttime (currently Southern Legends.)

I never thought I would ask this question of my self until I pulled up at the traffic lights recently on my 2026 Harley Davidson Pan America and a guy in a big truck was in the lane beside me and looked down and said “Mate get a real Harley”

Well that stumped me for a minute, I was on a 150 hp multipurpose bike that will out perform and handle better than any of the numerous Harleys I have owned in the past.

And thanks to Isaac some have stepped along and handled well.

Its got Harley Davidson on the tank , could it be an imposter, I don't think so ! But wolf in sheep's clothing, 100% maybe of course its a real Harley Davidson.

This brings me to the next question why is the Pan America a slower seller than some other models, and to be honest the reason is that some of the earlier models did have issues, but any new model of vehicle always will.

From my experience the motor company have covered the problems with upgrades etc , yes it’s inconvenient but they have listened and fixed the gremlins for the later models.

I am nearly 70 and was looking for a new touring bike , but did not want the weight or lower horsepower of some current models and the Pan America really appealed to me, I could have gone to a competitors brand but I have Harley in my blood, I know its sad but great.

Having test ridden the first Pan America I was impressed to say the least, and then chatting to some of the guys and girls who own them I was sold.

If you want a high performance bike with a multitude of safety modes, light and tractable then the Pan America is for you, ride one before you listen to critics.

Oh and yes I do help out at Southern Legends now and then, but for those who know me ,I say what I think and to that truck driver, yes it is a real Harley😊
