Important WOF Changes Are Coming — 1 November 2026 🚙 📋 ✨
New Zealand’s Warrant of Fitness system is changing next month, and how often your vehicle needs an inspection may be shifting!
Here is a breakdown of what the new rules mean for your ride:
🆕 New Light Vehicles: Your second WOF will now be due at four years instead of three.
🚗 Vehicles aged 4–14 years (First registered on/after 1 Nov 2019): Moving to a WOF every two years.
🚘 Vehicles aged 4–14 years (First registered between 1 Nov 2013 and 31 Oct 2019): You won't move to two-yearly WOFs until November 2027.
👴 Older Light Vehicles (Registered before 1 Jan 2000): Moving from six-monthly to annual WOFs.
🛡️ New Safety Checks: Inspections will now also include checks for warning or malfunction lights for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) systems, if your vehicle has them fitted.
⚠️ A vital reminder: A longer gap between WOFs doesn’t mean a longer gap between looking after your car! You are still legally responsible for keeping your vehicle roadworthy and safe between inspections.
