Honda RS250 NF5 Restoration Begins... 🏁

Well... here we go!

This weekend marked the final stage of the strip-down, and it's fair to say this old GP machine is pretty filthy and in desperate need of some love. But beneath the grime is one of Honda's legendary Grand Prix race bikes, and it deserves to be brought back to its former glory.

Over the coming weeks and months I'll be documenting a complete nut-and-bolt restoration of this Honda RS250 NF5, with the goal of returning it to the track for NZ Post Classic Racing.

As with the RS125 project, I won't be taking shortcuts. Every component will be inspected, restored or replaced where necessary, with authenticity, reliability and performance guiding every decision.

There will undoubtedly be plenty of challenges along the way, but that's all part of the fun.

A huge thank you to the incredible people who continue to support me behind the scenes with advice, technical knowledge, rare parts, and encouragement. Projects like this are never the work of one person alone.

These are the starting point photos... not particularly glamorous, but every great restoration has to begin somewhere.

I hope you'll enjoy following the journey as much as I enjoy bringing this iconic GP machine back to life.

Honda RS125 Restoration Completed 👌🏁

After weeks of work, countless hours in the workshop, a lot of research, parts sourcing, cleaning, polishing, rebuilding, and more attention to detail than I care to admit, the 1995 Honda RS125 restoration is finally complete.

The last few days have been spent finishing the final assembly, completing all the small details, and standing back to admire what is one of Honda's most iconic Grand Prix race bikes.

This project has been about far more than simply rebuilding a motorcycle. It has been about preserving a piece of racing history and returning a genuine GP machine to the condition it deserves.

A huge thank you to everyone who has followed the build, offered advice, supplied parts, shared information, or simply enjoyed the journey along the way. Your encouragement has made the project even more enjoyable.

I've attached a selection of images from the final stages of the restoration for you to enjoy.

The bike is now complete and ready to take its place in Post Classic Racing!

Project Search: A Future 500GP Build? 🤔🏁

Very early days on this one, but let's see what's out there...

I'm not sure how many people who follow my restorations and race bike builds share my fascination with the wild world of Grand Prix machinery, especially the legendary 500cc era. But every now and then a project comes along that makes you stop and think, "that could be something very special."

An innovative group of engine builders at BRC Racing are currently developing what could become a very interesting 500cc GP-style machine. While it's not a factory recreation of any particular motorcycle, it captures much of the spirit, engineering, and insanity that made the 500GP era so iconic.

As most of you know, the D6M workshop is already home to a factory-spec Honda RS250 and an Aprilia RSW125 project. The idea of eventually adding a modern interpretation of a 500GP machine to sit alongside them is certainly an intriguing one.

I've attached a link to the Italian article, along with some images that caught my attention.

What do you think?

🏁 Honda RS125 Project: Built! 🏁

After weeks of cleaning, restoring, refurbishing, sourcing parts, and carefully reassembling every component, the 1995 Honda RS125 is finally complete.

What started as a tired bike, and collection of parts has once again become the iconic Grand Prix machine Honda intended it to be.

Enjoy this short video of the finished bike. A full pictorial history of the restoration, from arrival through to completion, will be shared soon.

A huge amount of work has gone into this project, and it's incredibly satisfying to see the finished result sitting on its own wheels once again.

Honda '95 RS125 Restoration Update 🏁

After countless hours of cleaning, restoring, polishing, inspecting, and sorting through every component, I've finally reached one of the most rewarding stages of the project.

The preparation work is done.

Every part has been assessed, repaired, restored, or replaced where needed. Fresh hardware is ready to go, restored components are waiting on the bench, and the bike is finally at the point where it can start becoming a motorcycle again.

Now comes the fun part...

Let's put it together. 🔧🏍️

It's amazing how much time goes into the details that nobody sees, but those details are what make the finished bike special. Seeing this 1995 Honda RS125 slowly come back to life has been incredibly satisfying, and I'm looking forward to sharing the final stages of the build.

Stay tuned, because from here the project should start moving quickly!
