K200 Kenworth โ€” uprated properly using genuine Cummins software.

๐ŸŽ Power safely increased from 550Hp to 600Hp, and torque from 1850Nm to 2050Nm, using a genuine Cummins calibration.

Before doing anything, we checked the CPL (Critical Parts List) and confirmed the engine hardware is actually rated for 600Hp.

๐ŸŽ We also checked the transmission. This truck has a 2000Nm-rated gearbox, so it can handle the extra torque.

๐ŸŽ Sounds obvious, but apparently it isnโ€™t...

Over the last few months, Iโ€™d say at least 50% of the Kenworth and Freightliner trucks weโ€™ve worked on have been fix-ups from flash tuners who really shouldnโ€™t have been anywhere near them.

We have seen some crazy stuff:

๐Ÿˆ ECUs opened up and soldered to when they can be programmed perfectly through the diagnostic port.
๐Ÿˆ All the factory features and parameters wiped out โ€” and no, that isnโ€™t always a five-minute fix.
๐Ÿˆ Trucks surging, down on power and generally running terribly.
๐Ÿˆ One Freightliner ECU butchered badly enough that it had to be replaced.
๐Ÿˆ Check lights permanently stuck on and impossible to clear.
๐Ÿˆ ECUs resealed so poorly that water has got inside them.
๐Ÿˆ One K200 had been around 200Hp down for months before it came to us. There was so much wrong with the calibration Iโ€™m amazed the truck was still working. We fixed it properly.
๐Ÿˆ Factory 600Hp trucks deleted and somehow left configured at 550Hp.
๐Ÿˆ Trucks being tuned despite having major mechanical problems โ€” ECUs full of oil, faulty Jake solenoids, leaking injector harnesses, unhealthy turbos... you name it.

It really is the Wild West out there.

And my favourite...

๐Ÿˆ We recently fixed a K200 that had been set to 650Hp and 2200Nm while still running an RTLO18918B 1800Nm gearbox......You canโ€™t make this stuff up.

๐ŸŒ Hereโ€™s a pretty simple rule: if the guy tuning your truck needs the internet connected to do the job, ask yourself why ๐ŸŒ

When we are working with these Cummins and Detroit systems properly, the calibration work is done here, with factory software. We arenโ€™t waiting for somebody overseas to email a file back.

2025 Next-Gen Ranger 2.0L Bi-Turbo โ€” Custom Dyno Tune

โ›ฝ Peak figures went from 135.5 kW / 489 Nm to 146 kW / 585 Nm.

โ›ฝ But the important part is what happened through the rev range.

At 2000 rpm it gained around 27 kW.
At 3000 rpm it was still around 18 kW stronger.
And it picked up almost 100 Nm of torque through the main driving range.

โ›ฝ Thatโ€™s the sort of gain you actually feel on the road.

โ›ฝ When you drive it, it really does feel like youโ€™ve got that extra 80โ€“90 Nm everywhere, and the transmission does a really good job of keeping the engine right in that stronger part of the power curve.

โ›ฝ Put another 90 Nm into a 3.2L PX Ranger and yes, itโ€™s noticeably better...........But this feels more like weโ€™ve added 150 Nm to a 3.2L Ranger. The difference in the way it gets down the road is much bigger than the peak dyno figures suggest.

โ›ฝ And as always, this wasnโ€™t a generic file flashed in the driveway.

โ›ฝ It was run on our dyno, logged, tuned and tested here until we were happy with the result.

+27 kW at 2000 rpm
+18 kW at 3000 rpm
Almost +100 Nm torque
146 kW / 585 Nm peak

โ›ฝ Thatโ€™s a proper usable gain. Fuel figures coming, but we are expecting a significant drop in consumption โ›ฝ

Another PX3 Ranger 3.2 done properly on the dyno ๐Ÿ‘Œ

This one came in making 114.4kW and 470Nm at the wheels.

After tuning:

๐Ÿ”ฅ 150.1kW
๐Ÿ”ฅ 655Nm

But the peak numbers only tell part of the story.

At 2000rpm it has gained roughly 180Nm of torque. Thatโ€™s the sort of gain you actually feel when you put your foot down โ€” towing, overtaking or pulling up a hill.....And look at the other end of the graph...

At 4000rpm itโ€™s still making around 125kW, compared with only about 70kW standard.....Thatโ€™s roughly 55kW more power at 4000rpm.

Thatโ€™s a huge difference because we haven't just made a big lump of torque down low and called it a day. This thing keeps making power right through the rev range.

This is exactly why we use a dyno.

We can see what the vehicle is doing before we touch it, make changes, run it again, log it and keep working until the whole curve is where we want it.

Anyone can quote a peak number. The shape of the graph is what makes a vehicle drive properly.

No guessing. No flashing a file in the driveway and telling you what it should make.

We have factory software for these models and can diagnose and program all the modules in the truck.

๐Ÿ‰ Isuzu Giga 400 is always a good contender for another 40 to 50hp. Big engine with lower power setting from the factory....

๐Ÿ‰ Hino 500 has a good strong 7.8L engine that responds well to some additional power. Another 35hp makes them get up on top of their work instead of always feeling a little bogged down.

๐Ÿ‰ Tuning trucks is never about the power, its about the additional fuel added. We choose the amount of additional fuel we are prepared to add, and when we are there, we are there.

๐Ÿ‰ And no, we never turn up the big prime mover engines past the max factory setting....That's just looking for trouble.....

๐Ÿ‰ This one actually took a bit of work. It really didnโ€™t want to hand the power over, so we had to get a bit tricky with the tuning to get what we wanted out of it.

๐Ÿ‰ And this is exactly why we use a dyno.

๐Ÿ‰ If we were just flashing a file into it in the driveway and sending it down the road, the gain would have been nowhere near this.

๐Ÿ‰ It picked up around 42kW at 3500rpm, which is a really useful gain on these Hiluxes because they tend to spend a lot of time working between about 2500โ€“3500rpm, especially when towing or overtaking.

๐Ÿ‰ Itโ€™s also making roughly 100Nm more torque right through the rev range, and itโ€™s still carrying that advantage right out towards 4000rpm.

๐Ÿ‰ Thatโ€™s the bit I like. Not just a big torque spike at 2000rpm for a nice-looking number on Facebook โ€” it actually keeps the extra torque and power as the engine revs out.

๐Ÿ‰ More usable torque through the normal driving range also means it doesnโ€™t need as much throttle or have to hunt gears as much, which generally helps fuel economy when itโ€™s driven normally.

๐Ÿ‰ 106.9kW โ†’ 128.0kW peak...But the peak number really isnโ€™t the story here.

๐Ÿ‰ Look at the gap between the two graphs from 2500rpm onwards. Thatโ€™s what you actually feel when you drive it.

And once againโ€ฆ youโ€™re not finding that sitting in a driveway with a laptop. ๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸŽ This Landcruiser came in making around 350โ€“370Nm at 2000rpm.

๐ŸŽ After tuning it was making around 680โ€“690Nm at the same rpm.

๐ŸŽ So thatโ€™s over 300Nm more torque at 2000rpm โ€” almost double.

๐ŸŽ Power gain at 2000rpm was close to 70kW, and even up around 4000rpm it was still making roughly 50kW more than standard.

Thatโ€™s the bit I like.

๐ŸŽ It doesnโ€™t just make a big lump of torque down low and then run out of puff. It keeps pulling properly through the rev range, which is what you want when youโ€™re overtaking or towing.

๐ŸŽ Weโ€™re pretty much out of turbo now though. The factory turbo has given us about everything itโ€™s got, so thatโ€™s where Iโ€™m happy to stop.

This is also why I keep banging on about dyno tuning.

๐ŸŽ There are plenty of guys out there flashing vehicles in driveways, or loading tunes that have been written by someone overseas who has never seen the vehicle.

Thatโ€™s not how we do it.

๐ŸŽ We tune the vehicle here, on our dyno, in front of us.

๐ŸŽ We can see what itโ€™s doing, hear what itโ€™s doing, smell what itโ€™s doing, and make changes based on the actual vehicle โ€” not just email a file off and hope for the best.

๐ŸŽ In fact, we can do the whole job with the internet turned off.

So if youโ€™re getting your vehicle tuned, maybe ask the guy doing it one simple question: โ€œIf the internet went down, could you still tune my vehicle?โ€

๐ŸŽ If the answer is no, you might want to ask who is actually doing the tuning. ๐Ÿ˜

Nice 1KD Hilux came down from up north for a custom tune.

๐Ÿ“ It made 47kw in the mid range and 170Nm more torque....which is impressive as it was on top of only 330Nm......So a very big percentage gain.

๐Ÿ“ See the boost at the start of the run. It is actually there, its just the small line from the manifold to the sensor, cannot fill the boost hose to the dyno sensor fast enough....so i have to fix that....I need to move the sensor closer to the dyno with a shorter boost hose.

๐Ÿ“ The reason the power tapers off, is we don't want the injector open too long as the rpm gets up, or it cooks the top of the piston and causes them to fail. So its a fine balance to get the set up correct and some complex math....

โ›ฝโ›ฝCustomer states its now getting an additional 100ks per tank for fuel....

๐Ÿ… This one was tuned elsewise, and the dpf deleted which has overspeed the turbo. It was only time until it failed, had a LOT of endplay and was very noisy.

๐Ÿ… We ran it on the dyno with the old tune installed and the new hi flow turbo. That's the lower red and blue line.

๐Ÿ… Then we retuned it....the upper red and blue line.

๐Ÿ… It didn't drive nice when it came too us, had way too much torque low down for the manual to work correctly.

๐Ÿ… To be honest we have pulled the power back from the 172kw to about 160, boost is stable at 22psi and its drives like a new one as we set the lower torque correctly. Now it has smooth linea power.

๐Ÿ… There was so much wrong with this tune I cant even list it all here....Just bring you Ranger here to be tuned. All these flash tunes are rubbish in comparison to an actual tune and we have been doing this since 2009.
