This month we're shining a light on Te Kura o Ōpāwaho – Opawa School.

Established in 1872 and now with a roll of 380 students, Opawa School has had a remarkable stretch, with recent highlights including 90% whānau engagement at Learning Conferences, students placing top 10 out of 120 schools at the Canterbury EPRO8 Finals, and five Merit and four Excellence results at the UC Kiwi Competitions.

October is Melanoma Awareness Month, and we’re proud to back our national community partner, Melanoma NZ, to support their Get Spotted campaign.

New Zealand has some of the highest skin cancer rates in the world, but education and early detection can save lives.

Here are a few simple ways you can get involved and look out for one another this month:
- Attend a free spot check event near you
- Learn what signs to look for on your skin
- Make a habit of regular self-checks
- Protect your skin every single day
- My Challenge members can redeem their points for a direct donation to Melanoma NZ, helping fund more free spot checks and vital support across Aotearoa.
