Xpress Pixel Z1 – Race Results & Setup Update

I made a few changes to the chassis setup for this race:

* Motor: Upgraded from 2500KV to 3500KV
* Chassis: Installed a brass chassis
* Front ride height: Adjusted to 1.8mm
* Front tyres: PN730 and Marka RR10
* lexan body instead of hard plastic version.
The car was amazing to drive! 😍 The changes made a noticeable difference, and I’m really happy with how it performed.

Next up, I’ll try a ball differential and see how much more performance I can squeeze out of the Pixel Z1!

Won all three races!

RACE REPORT — TONY STEPHEN MEMORIAL CLUB CLASSIC 2026

3–4 October 2026

Speedi Models had a fantastic weekend at the Tony Stephen Memorial Club Classic 2026, with great racing, plenty of fun, and some valuable lessons along the way.

🏆 13.5T Touring — Xpress XQ11RR

The weekend started on Saturday, 3 October, with three qualifying rounds and one final.

The Xpress XQ11RR wasn't performing as expected, and after some investigation, we found the problem — a stripped plastic servo horn was causing issues with steering response and consistency.

After replacing the servo horn and making a few adjustments on Saturday night, we came back on Sunday with what felt like a completely new car.

The XQ11RR had noticeably better traction and was much easier to control. The handling and overall feel gave us much more confidence, and the car was a lot more enjoyable to drive.

Across the five races over the weekend, the XQ11RR took three wins. We're very happy with how the car performed and especially pleased with the improvement in handling and consistency.

Classic Mini — 12-Minute Final

Not to mention the Classic Mini race — that was a lot of fun! A 12-minute final made for a great change of pace and plenty of exciting racing. Definitely one of the highlights of the weekend!

🙏 Thank You

A huge thank you to North Radio Control Car Club for putting together and running such a great meeting. We really appreciate all the work that goes into making an event like this happen.

And a special thank you to Matthew for making such cool trophies. They looked fantastic and made the event even more special.

Also, a big thank you to the class sponsor, The Hunting Kiwi Hospitality, for supporting the 13.5T class. Monsoon Coffee for supporting the Mini Class.

It was a fantastic weekend of racing, good competition and plenty of fun — and a fitting way to remember Tony Stephen.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and we'll see you at the next one!

“King-Pin Flip” on the Xpress Pixel Z1

This simple modification gives the front suspension a much smoother action and more consistent suspension travel.

You’ll need some 2 mm spacers to adjust the front ride height. Depending on your setup, you may also need lighter or shorter springs to achieve the desired droop setting.

The key point of this modification is that the king-pin needs to slide freely through both the steering hub and the upper arm ball as the front suspension compresses. In the standard setup, the steering hub doesn’t seem to slide particularly smoothly along the king-pin.

With the king-pin flipped, there is only one main friction point during suspension compression — the lower suspension ball. This significantly reduces friction and results in much smoother and freer front suspension movement.

A simple modification, but it can make a noticeable difference to the front-end feel.

Inspired by the Kyosho MR-03 king-pin flip. 🙂

First time taking the Xpress 1/28 Pixel Z1 to the local track, and I’m very impressed with its handling straight out of the box. 👌

It managed the second-fastest lap time of the day, with plenty of room for improvement. I’m looking forward to trying a brass-weighted chassis next—this should help increase cornering speed and make the car even faster.

Round one of Battle of the Cities
Z1 with 2500kv, First time on the track in Modified class manage to do 9.006s lap 34/6.08.833 (can do better… last race of the day and driver was getting tired)
My RC28r with 3500kv did 8.982s , 35/6.06.293.
