LONDON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Shell (SHEL.L), opens new tab trimmed its liquefied natural gas production outlook for the fourth quarter on Wednesday and said oil and gas trading results are expected to be significantly lower than in the previous three months.
In a trading update ahead of Jan. 30 full-year results, Shell also said it would take $1.5 billion to $3 billion of non-cash, post-tax impairments, including up to $1.2 billion in its renewables division, linked to European and North American assets.

Drilling in the U.S. shale patch dropped to the lowest level in almost two-and-a-half years as operators vow to make good on promises to investors for subdued production growth this year.

The number of U.S. rigs drilling for oil fell by four to 492, the lowest since January 2022, according to data released Friday by Baker Hughes Co.. The rig count is down 1.6% so far this year, while oil prices are up 5.6% in the same period.

Services provider Petrofac Ltd has secured a technical services contract valued at $350 million over five years from Compañía Nacional de Petróleos de Guinea Ecuatorial (GEPetrol), the national oil company of Equatorial Guinea.

Petrofac will provide services to support the operation of the region’s Block B asset. Petrofac will deliver technical services across onshore support bases, a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit, and a platform on behalf of the operator GEPetrol, a Petrofac news release said.
