A Hidden Gem

Last year, my wife and I took a really nice vacation in Skradin, Croatia. It's a really small town not too far from the coast in Croatia.

While there, I noticed an old truck with a sign on it saying "Oldtimer Museum Skradin". Naturally, we had to check it out.

There we met 2 very friendly fellows. One guys was pretty quiet, working on little pieces of jewelery while we were there. This guy's name was Vrbanus. And man, he made 2 of the most awesome creations I've EVER seen. A VW beetle totally decked out in forged iron and swarovski crystals, and a dress to match it!!!

The other guy was SUPER friendly. He absolutely loved americans (Bonus for me), and he loved the Ghostbusters! He also happened ro be the owner of the museum. is a man who knows everything about the cars in his possession! I have kept a bit of contact with him over the last year, and he's definitely a soft-hearted, and fun guy to talk to!

If you're ever in Skradin, be sure to check out their museum! It's definitely worth it!

Never Before

Never, have I ever, seen a Foxbody Mustang that looks THIS GOOD! No, I'm not joking! If I had to choose my favorite car from the American Sunday, It'd be this bad boy! Don't get me wrong, there were TONS of great looking cars! But I've never seen a Foxbody this clean. Where I'm from, they're a dime-a-dozen, and most of them look quite clapped out! And that's exactly why this car caught my eye so much at the track.

My only complaint is, from that day, is that it rained SO MUCH, that we didn't get to see the full potential of all the cars.

I'll admit, that I'm quite curious to know how much power this baby pushes. How much horsepower does she have?

Camaro and America, that's more what that means!

This is one of the most awesome cars I saw when I was at the American Sunday at TT Assen! I always love a car with a good paintjob! I love the bright colors that he used, which is slightly reminiscent of the classic Gulf paintjob, however, with it's own twist!

Let's be honest, lately, almost anything to do with America, I've become obsessed with! I haven't been home in like 3-4 years, and I've begun to miss almost anything that has to do with it! So, thank you .ss for coming to the event with such a great car and making me quite happy with great photos!

You would think you wouldn't miss it all...

The Foxbody Mustang, a dime-a-dozen in the US.
The Dodge neon, same story.
And the Police? Well, that's from Springfield, Oregon. I thought MAYBE it was Springfield, Ohio, but it wasn't. However, I have a deep fear of the police in the US. Haha!

This all said, since leaving the US, I realize, there's alot of cars I don't see on the road anymore. The Foxbody Mustang has been replaced with VW Golfs, and the Dodge Neons are almost non-existant. Again, since leaving the US, I have become a major fan of these cars, and I most definitely have a soft spot for "domestic rice" FWD cars, which I learned to love in my Forza playing days.

Now, the police cruiser is also something special for me, "Springfield", no matter which state, brings me right back home and gives me a comfortable feeling, as I lived 15 minutes away from Springfield, Ohio. Plus, the wording on the rear of the car "To Protect and Serve." I think this is the meaning of life. (just to go a bit deeper). Also, did you know that Springfield, Oregon is the 'home' of the Simpsons?

A few pics from yesterday´s event at Circuit Assen!

I´ll admit, the first shot, I´ve never shot anything so crazy in my life! Was amazing to see going down the track. And so close at that! I was lucky enough to be an official photographer that day! So thanks to Laurits v.d. Broek from the team!

The rest of these photos, I'm not sure but, I think I was the only photographer who walked out to the back stretch of the track to get some nice speed shot!

The last 2 photos, this car really caught my eye at the show! I'd never seen an Oldsmobile Starfire EVER in my life! And it was alot of fun listening to the man's wife telling the story about the car, as well as getting to see a photo book! This makes me think, I'm not taking NEAR enough pictures of my own oldtimer's rebuild!

It's in the details.

Sometimes, when you're at an event like the American Sunday, and cars are racing around on a track, you get too focused on the action shots. While those are nice, the detail shots can really be a thing of beauty!

Certain things, like a badge of an old Dodge Cornet, how the tail lights of a matt red PT Cruiser look in tandem with the graphics, or the bold design of a sweet lookin' 'Vette, they just catch your attention!

Also, I just can't forget Betty Boop either! There will be more about that one coming later! You can BET on that.😉

While this is a sky blue Dodge Ram camper, this photo brings back many GOOD memories for me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When I was young, my great grandad had an old 2-toned green Dodge Ram that sat out front of his house. It had this same hood emblem on it. My memories aren't so much centered around the old truck (even though I remember it quite well), but rather around my great grandparents. I don't think there's many weeks that go by in a year where I don't think about them. (namely my Great Grandad)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I remember every time we would go to their house, my brother and I would knock on the door, and my Great Grandad would always open the door and say in excited voice, "HEEEY! Who are you!?" And we'd always say back "It's us Great Grandad!" He'd ask our names, and then we'd tell him. This was always followed by a huge hug! He wasn't senile, it was just his way of playing with his great grandchildren. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

He was truly a paragon of our family, and I miss him greatly! When I think of him, I often think of his mild manner the overall calm about him. My mother always told me too, if I had known him in my older lifetime, I would have absolutely loved him. Of this I have no doubt!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Funny thing is, if I were to ever have a child, I wanted to name him after my Great Grandad. Thing is, here in the Netherlands, that wouldn't work, as his name was Oren. Which, in dutch, this means 'ears'. To tell the truth, he had big ears indeed! :D But the real meaning of his name was "A strong oak", and indeed, this was my great grandad.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

found himself in Texas about 8 months ago, where he discovered this Pontiac Catalina, just waiting to be bought! Now, I don't remember if it was indeed a barn-find, but this comes pretty close to it! This Catalina has perfect patina on it, and no actual rust!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Johan himself is a killer nice guy! When he popped over to my house to let me take a good look at the car, his greeting was warm, and talking to him was like talking to a friend that I'd had for many years! THAT made this shoot (and the conversations) a total blast for me! Even his wife was super nice (as she came along)! She also gave me a short US history lesson (which she studied for). Was pretty awesome to learn some things that I never learned in school in the US.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Suns of Japheth: Complete

This is the "Suns of Japheth" in it's entirity. It's the 2nd part of my series "From Darkness to Light". A tribute to the asian (japanese) car market.

In this part, the 1977 Mazda RX-5 from . She's a very well kept car, in absolutely perfect condition. Even the engine is super clean! And to boot, the car is super rare in the Netherlands, which makes it even more of a gem!

The Suns of Japheth: Part 2

This is the 2nd photo, of the second part of my series "From Darkness to Light" This time, it features the 1986 Toyota MR-2 from . What's cool about this photo is, it actually got featured in the Dutch MR-2 club magazine (spring 2020, pages 14 and 15) with a story about Erik and his MR-2.

Since this photo, it has undergone some changes. And I might add, he's done a terrific job with it!
