Testdrive after rebuilding a motor for a Mercedes SL

Sometimes the weekend comes to early,🤔

when all parts are cleaned and sorted it is time to start building an engine😛

But like everyone else we need a little rest at the end of the week ☀️🍻

Hard to stop if you like your job😉

but this M116.982 engine needs to wait for Monday when we will continue😂

Soms komt het weekend te vroeg,🤔

als alle onderdelen schoongemaakt en gesorteerd zijn is het tijd om een motor te gaan bouwen😛

Maar net als iedereen hebben we aan het einde van de week wat rust nodig☀️ ️🍻

Moeilijk te stoppen als je van je werk houdt😉

maar deze M116.982 motor moet tot maandag wachten, dan gaan we verder😂

This red 300SL came in for some minor cosmetic work but as always we take things further and we went all the way😀😉

Red is at it's best when just painted😎

Even though the clouds looks threatening we took it for an enjoyable test drive😀👌

Next is a licence/register examination (MOT or TUV) and then it will be for sale and ready to enjoy 😍😃👍

This lovely 380 SL came in from California, turned out to be a nice example.
Well taken care off but after 35 years a little more attention is necessary.

We serviced the brakes,
new pads and hoses, cleaned the reservoir and refreshed the brake fluid.

Fresh fuel supply,
filter(s) pump and hoses,
Fuel distributor and a dozen minor srews, clambs, rubber, seals and grommets.

Passed the obligatory APK TUV/MOT licence test without any remark so,

now off for a professional car detailing treatment and it will be for sale soon,

It could be yours 😉😉

2 rebuild fuel distributors and warm up regulators ready to be shipped and installed again.

Once received here we do an inspection clean up first,
disassemble them before
all parts receive a nice warm ultrasonic bath and inspecting them again.
Then the rebuild begins with new modern fuel resistant parts like o-rings, seals and membrame, springs, screws etc.

After testing and calibrating to factory specifications they get cleaned and installed in our workshop or being prepared for shipping.

This happy looking bunch of pistons sure are ready for the new week,🤪

Being assembled together with all new and / or overhauled parts like rebuild cilinder heads, injectors, a fully programmable electronic ignition and all kinds of shiny bits and pieces this 116.982 will be a happy revin' 350 soon now.😎

here's an update on the prgress 😊

in our opinion the best color for the SL,
735 Astral Silber Metallic😀
this first series 450 SL is ready to receive it's rebuild engine and drivetrain.
but first a little time-out to let the paint dry a few days.
after the weekend it is reassembling time 😀😀😀😀😀
