And then the thermostat housing gasket starts leaking...

A day of tinkering, cleaning and some archaeological research into the 'hidden' numbers down in the Jeep while we're there 😀.

And of course, new gasket, thermostat and waterpumpgasket... just to be sure.
Another day 'well spent'

Got to prevent flat spotting! Seriously!... Especially during wintertime. So I volunteered today and took the Jeep for a spin 😬.

Freezing cold winds, christmas songs on the radio, nice blue skies and - never checked before - surprise, surprise the heater works like a charm!

So I took a bit longer to check if the river was still there. It is 😉.

One step at a time... they say. Rebuilding the charcoal canister was supposed to be that step. But as always... one step leads to the next, and the next, and...

Nah... let's do an all in one, restored the entire left wing 😀.

- rebuilt and reconnected the charcoal canister
(how2 by .with.cool.guy)
- replaced and reconnected all vacuum hoses
(according to the original scheme)
- cleaned out the wing and some small rust spots
- cleaned coolant and washer reservoirs
- cleaned and repainted the horn and the diagnostics connector bridge.

And yes, with all the vacuum hoses rerouted to their factory original connectors... runs like a charm!

Wow, big difference a bit of serious cleaning makes! (autoglym, brushes, citric acid and time)

And yes, getting used to it ... the Jeepers Domino-effect:

- Decided to restore the Charcoal V***r Canister.

- That also means taking out the coulant and windshield washer canisters. Of course, should clean those.

- And that... is a once in a lifetime opportunity to clean the whole left wing of the engine bay.

- So also took out the horn, diagnostic connector and bracket to clean. Hmmm... those need a paint 🤔.

- the end... I hope

Restoring to stock original requires strong nerves. And every now and then I stumble. Hope the restauration gods forgive me the little upgrades 'behind the dash'.

Because after sneaking bluetooth into the stock radio electronics... I really needed those speakers 😉.

JBL Stage3 527. Fit like a glove onto the stock dash mounted bolts with a little rubber spacer and (after cleaning all plugs on the CJ) they sound great!

Dismounting the dash also gave me the opportunity to try to rechrome the 'trim' on the airco. Some research brought me to the Molotow liquid chrome marker... funny name but works remarkably well!

Sun's out! Getting things ready to ride again.

And of course take some next steps in the restauration: gear levers this time. Small detail, little effort, big difference!

Christmas! Time to add some extra lights to the Limited. 🎄

So (finally) pulled out the n.o.s. box with the factory original SEV Marchal fog lights. Created my own brackets (will find some originals someday), got some nice chrome fender bolts, hooked the lights up to the existing wiring harness and ... then there was light!

Crisp chrome and bright new covers... Beautiful.

There must be a smarter way to tension the belt to the alternator and retighten the bolts (without needing three hands).... But, this worked 💪 😇. No more squeeling, back to CJ-stealth mode.

Powersteering- and AC-belts have this square socket to put tension on the belt using the wrench, but the alternator... am I missing something?

While working on bigger stuff... episode 2 of the that matter: endcaps on your spare tire carrier.

Took me some time to find the right ones, but dnl.nl helped me out by finding me the right fit and selling me only four instead of the default shipping of 100 pieces ... 😅.

Small things to appreciate... the domelight in the back (in the hardtop roof): Finding that one loose wire, polishing to restore the scorched plastic, cleaning the in- and outside, remounting and.... let there be light! 🤩

Ordered a 212-2 LED replacement bulb to prevent re-scorching.
