APPRECIATION
Your Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State,
Distinguished dignitaries,
Ladies and gentlemen of the press,
My colleagues,
My beloved wife, Dr. Abidemi Bolanle Oyedokun,
Ladies and gentlemen,
I stand before you today, deeply honoured and grateful to receive this award for distinguished service as the second General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
This recognition is a humbling reminder of a journey that was not walked alone. It belongs just as much to the brave and selfless men and women of LASTMA, past and present, who stood on the frontlines to restore order and discipline on our roads. I pay special tribute to the first General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Adegboyega Coker of blessed memory, whose pioneering and groundbreaking work laid the foundation of this great organization under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Permit me also to honour the memory of those officers who paid the ultimate price those who lost their lives or suffered unjust brutality, sometimes in the course of enforcing traffic laws. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
To those who endured — who stood firm through the challenges, the insults, and the dangers — and who continue to serve with integrity and commitment, I salute your resilience. LASTMA has evolved, and I am proud of how far the agency has come. The torch we lit years ago still burns brightly and will shine even stronger by the special grace of God.
I wish to express my profound gratitude to our great leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who gave me the opportunity to serve as General Manager of LASTMA, despite not having met me personally.
I thank the Lagos State Government for this honour, and I remain forever proud to have contributed to a vision that continues to transform traffic management in Lagos and across Nigeria.
God bless you all, and God bless Lagos State.
Ayodeji Peter Oyedokun.
