TURBO CHARGER

A turbocharger, often just called a "turbo," is a device that's used to increase the power output of an engine without significantly increasing its weight. The fundamental principle behind a turbocharger is simple: to get more power from an engine, you can increase the amount of fuel it burns. To burn more fuel efficiently, you need more air, and a turbocharger helps an engine draw in more air more quickly.

Here's how a turbocharger works:

A turbocharger has two main parts: a turbine and a compressor, connected by a common shaft. The turbine is located in the exhaust flow from the cylinders.

The energy from the exhaust gases coming out of the cylinders spins the turbine. The turbine, in turn, spins the shaft that connects it to the compressor.

On the other end of the shaft, the compressor draws in ambient air and compresses it before pumping it into the cylinders.

Compressing the air means the air enters the cylinder with a greater oxygen density. The higher oxygen level allows the engine to burn more fuel and, therefore, produce more power.

The reason why turbos are so popular, particularly in high-performance and economical cars, is because they significantly improve an engine's efficiency. They allow a smaller engine to produce power comparable to that of a much larger engine, which can lead to fuel efficiency gains during cruising or lower speed conditions when the turbo is not needed.

However, turbochargers do have some disadvantages. For example, they can cause "turbo lag," which is the delay between the moment you press down on the accelerator and the time it takes for the turbo to deliver the extra power. Also, because turbochargers operate under high pressure and temperatures, they can lead to increased engine wear if not properly maintained. Lastly, they can make the engine more complex and potentially more expensive to repair.

that removing your car's thermostat actually does MORE HARM THAN GOOD?

For starters, removing the thermostat is like trying to cure malaria by treating the headache it caused with paracetamol. It’s futile.

Removing your thermostat and connecting the fan directly to the battery can harm your car by increasing your fuel consumption, damaging your cylinders and many other expensive mistakes you can avoid by not removing your thermostat.

If this is so, why does your mechanic still ask you to do this? And is it really the right thing to do?

Unless you drive a vehicle with a smart key fob, chances are that you may need to duplicate your car key some day. When that day comes, we advise you duplicate all copies from the original key.

That is because duplicating a car key from another duplicated key is like photocopying another photocopied document, it will not be clear.

Does your car have a ball joint problem❓

Ball joints connect the car’s tires and wheels to its suspension system. They basically allow a vehicle’s suspension to move up and down, while also allowing the wheels to steer left or right.

When faulty, ball joints usually show any of the following signs:

1️⃣ You’re likely to experience clunking noises coming from the front suspension. This is because the joints wear out, become loose and rattle as the suspension travels up and down on the road.

2️⃣ You may also notice excessive vibrations from the front of the vehicle while driving. This vibration may be felt through the steering wheel and is caused by the loose ball joint vibrating disproportionately in its socket.

3️⃣ Your steering wheel could become confused and wander left or right on its own which would cause the driver to focus on ensuring the wheels remain straight or in position at all times.

Ball joint issues should be taken very seriously because in worst cases, not only would it damage your tires through wear and tear, but it could also damage your car’s fender and other suspension components.

Considering the fluctuating price of fuel these past few months and the likelihood of it increasing ahead of Christmas, it is necessary to learn and practice fuel-efficient driving.

While there may be more important mechanical factors that could negatively affect your fuel economy, here are four (4) driving tips that will help you use less fuel while increasing your miles per gallon.

1️⃣ Accelerate gently

The harder you accelerate, the more fuel your engine will need to achieve that velocity over time. Accelerate gently to save fuel.

2️⃣ Use air-conditioning only when necessary

Whenever you can, driving with the windows down without air conditioning is a great way to save over 15% fuel. The natural breeze may even be good for the soul.

3️⃣ Ensure your tires are in perfect condition

Poorly aligned or inflated tires adversely affect your vehicle’s fuel economy. It is best to routinely check your tire alignment, tire pressure and even the physical condition of the tires, in order to enjoy a better driving experience and also advert safety hazards.

4️⃣ Avoid overloading your vehicle

It is logical. The more load you carry, the more fuel your engine will need to move forward. Check for your vehicle’s recommended maximum capacity by the side of the driver's door to know more.

The above tips will only work if your vehicle has no existing mechanical faults that negatively affect fuel economy like faulty oxygen sensors, old engine air filters, clogged fuel filters, etc. We advise you to visit a professional auto workshop for a detailed diagnosis and possible repairs.

Wrongly disconnecting your car’s battery could reset your vehicle's computer and possibly damage some electronic modules?

Yes. Depending on the year, make, and model of your vehicle, disconnecting or replacing the battery the wrong way could cause some of the following problems:

‣ Loss of memory in some computerised modules which could lead to poor fuel economy and weird transmission operations that could last for 50 to 100 miles.

‣ It could reset the ABS and Airbag modules, which may prevent them from working, especially if they require reprogramming after loss of power.

‣ It could lead to loss of power window and/or power sunroof position settings. When this happens, the power window and sunroof may not work properly until the position values have been reset.

‣ In some cases, it could reset or disable the vehicle’s anti-theft system, which could cause the engine not to crank because the vehicle thinks it’s about to be stolen.

NEVER disconnect your car’s battery while the engine is running or the ignition key is on. Doing so could create a high voltage spike that may damage your alternator and/or other electronic modules.
