Exactly one year ago today, I walked into this building with hope.
I came looking for business partners who would stock and sell our YNorth School Shoes.
On the ground floor, I met a woman who sold children’s products. She politely told me they already had brands they worked with. Then I went upstairs, where an Alhaji introduced me to several school shoe dealers.
Almost all of them gave me the same response:
“Your shoes are too good, your quality is too high, and your prices are too competitive. If we bring them in, they’ll compete with the brands we’re already selling.”
In simple terms, I got a firm NO.
I left feeling disappointed, but I accepted it and moved on.
Less than four hours later, while I was in a friend’s shop, I noticed smoke rising from one of the upper floors of the same building. At first, it didn’t seem too serious. Firefighters arrived quickly, and I felt everything would be under control.
Later that night, my phone was flooded with videos showing how devastating the fire had become.
That was when reality hit.
Life can change in a matter of hours.
One moment you’re discussing business and making plans for tomorrow. The next moment, everything you’ve worked for can be gone.
It reminded me that we only control our efforts not the outcome. We don’t know when a single opportunity will change our lives, and we don’t know when unexpected events will change them too.
May God grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives, comfort their families, and continue to protect us all.
