Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Comment Draws Attention as Yahaya Bello’s ₦80.2bn Trial Continues

A comment by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has generated reactions on social media following updates from the ongoing money-laundering trial of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

After the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shared proceedings from the Federal High Court in Abuja, the senator posted a remark referencing “Swiss chocolates,” which many online users interpreted as sarcastic.

The comment came as an EFCC witness testified on alleged financial transactions involving Kogi State local government funds. Bello, who is facing 19 counts related to money laundering and criminal breach of trust, has pleaded not guilty and described the charges as politically motivated.

Reactions to the senator’s remark have been mixed, with some Nigerians viewing it as satire, while others criticised it as inappropriate commentary on an ongoing trial. The case has been adjourned to February 2026 for continuation of hearing.
