We know driving Namibia’s gravel roads makes you feel wild and free, but please remember to follow road rules and consider the safety of yourself and others.

A common and dangerous mistake we see is cars stopping on the gravel road, whether for a picnic or a quick photo. This can create serious risks for both you and oncoming traffic.

Here’s why it’s safer to pull completely off the road:

• Dusty conditions – Oncoming cars may not see your vehicle if it’s standing on the road, and your car is less likely to be hit by flying dust and rocks when off the road.
• Slippery gravel – Gravel roads can be unpredictable. Leaving more space between your car and the main road gives other drivers room to drive past safely. Just moving slightly to the side isn’t enough — you need to get fully off the road.
• Hilly terrain – Some gravel roads are hilly. If you stop right after a hill, the driver behind may not see you until it’s too late.

For a safe and enjoyable journey, always find a proper spot off the road before taking photos or having a break.

Sitting around a fire is one of our favourite pastimes. Give it a try, there's nothing quite like it! 🔥

To ensure it's a success, we’ve complied a quick list of do’s and don’ts.

✅ Remember that you can buy firewood at almost all campsites.
✅ Use designated fire pits or proper clearings. Wildfires are a real risk.
✅ Go for local, slow-burning hardwood like Mopane, Camelthorn or Sicklebush.

🚫 Don’t forget the fire starters. They just make life so much easier.
🚫 Avoid big, whole logs. Since these hardwoods burn slowly, It’s better to use split pieces of wood instead of large, whole chucks.
🚫 Don’t use wood that’s full of sand or termite damage.

We can go on and on about campfire tips and tricks, so consider this as lesson 1! ☝️🔥
