Project Irrational, P38.
Custom rear bumper in progress and it’s turning out sweet. The brief is simple to say and annoying to execute,proper clearance without losing the stock look. A P38 wearing an aftermarket bumper that screams aftermarket defeats the point.

Single tyre carrier for now. Room to grow later if the build demands it.

Next step, bolt it all together and see what Jason the owner says. No pressure. LOL

Two Pajeros, two completely different ways of testing my patience.

Harish’s 4D56(project gurbax) was surprisingly civilised. Engine had never been opened before, so apart from oversize pistons recommended by the machine shop, the rebuild was actually straightforward. Apparently untouched engines are a luxury now.

Rizal’s was the opposite his 4m40(project felda). That one came with plenty of previous “engineering decisions” for us to discover and politely undo. Took a few attempts, a fair bit of head scratching and probably some new vocabulary, but she finally runs sweet.

Both are officially alive now. Next up is cooling, fans, clutch systems, wiring, aircond and all the small things that make a 30 year old Pajero behave slightly less like a 30 year old Pajero.

Rizal is going all out. Harish has been doing it stage by stage. Either way, the horrible part is mostly done. Now we get to spend money on the fun stuff.

Project Felda finally has its heart back in. Rizal’s V46 Pajero has now completed a full Stage 3 rebuild with upgraded engine components, fuel pump, injectors, rebuilt gearbox, upgraded valve body, refreshed converter and basically everything addressed properly instead of hoping old parts somehow become new again.

This Pajero is actually the one that made me start appreciating these trucks properly. Rizal saw the potential in the V46 from the beginning and was willing to build it to a standard that very few Pajeros ever get the chance to reach. More importantly, he understands the process, trusts the work and gives proper input. His whole family has genuinely been a blessing to deal with, and I am grateful that they trusting us with the build.

The engine is in, but we are far from done. Next comes the wiring, interior, sound system, exhaust, paint and all the smaller details that will turn this from a rebuilt Pajero into Project Felda.

Months of hard work reduced to a 30 second reel. Victor came by to check on Project Madman with his usual poker face, so still impossible to tell if he was excited or quietly judging us. But I got the nod to discuss the next stage for the engine, wiring and aircond, so I will take that as win. A couple of new items on the bottom end still need to be switched out, but that is pretty much Stage 1 done. Looking back at how the frame started and where she is now, she has come a bloody long way. Even the stock JB74 wheels suit the LWB properly.

Harish’s 4D56 (project gurbax) is completely rebuilt and finally back where it belongs. This was not a quick gasket job dressed up as an overhaul. The engine was stripped, inspected, measured, machined where required, rebuilt properly and installed back into the swb Pajero. Which will be covered in a proper long-form video because work like this deserves more than thirty seconds and loud music. Currently in dicussion with Harish on several auxiliary engine upgrades to improve reliability and make the entire package work better. Most importantly, excellent work from the boys. The workshop feels very different when everyone is pulling in the same direction. Funny how removing one rotten part can improve the performance of the whole machine.

Most people who follow the page know I don’t entertain random walk ins, but customers who have their vehicles here are always welcome to come by. Funny enough, they are usually the ones who still make an appointment first because they respect my time, and I respect theirs. It means we can actually set aside proper time to sit down, look through the car and discuss the build without rushing.

Harish came by to check on Project Gurbax, his L043 short wheelbase Pajero. We are rebuilding the engine and sorting out the wiring harness, and he also brought over a few bits and pieces for the project. Although I suspect the real reason for the visit was to show me his Porsche 996. He already knows I have some difficulty accepting those front headlamps, but he bought it at a solid price and the car definitely has potential. Maybe that becomes the next project once Gurbax is completed. One problem at a time.

Project Bajak is looking like a pretty badak now. Still in paint, not polished, trims not fully fitted, and it already looks bloody good compared to the plain black it came in. We also have a special lighting setup coming from the boys over at CSB Pro Sunway, incorporating Baja Designs lights.
