PROTON WIRA AEROBACK 1.5 SE (2006) | A COMPLETE REBIRTH AT DREAM STREET RESTORATION

Another Proton legacy icon has arrived at Dream Street Restoration for a major restoration journey.

This 2006 Proton Wira Aeroback 1.5 SE, owned by a school headmaster from Kulim, carries more than just automotive value.

The owner is taking the initiative to restore this car as a meaningful project for his 17-year-old son, who has been looking for a proper one-stop centre capable of handling a complete car rebuild from the ground up.

And that is exactly where DSR comes in.

At Dream Street Restoration, we don’t simply make an old car look new. Our approach is to systematically rebuild the vehicle across its major areas:

Sepang, 2003 | Cyberjaya Lodge

A moment I’ll never forget.

Michael Schumacher, almost unintentionally, ended up behind the wheel of an ex-rally car on his way to the next media venue, in an event organised by Shell.

What was supposed to be just another media transfer suddenly became a rather unforgettable drive.

A Formula 1 World Champion driving a former rally car… in Malaysia. 🏁

One of those unexpected motorsport moments that stays with you forever.

🏁 Hidden Talent, Discovered Behind the Camera 📸

I would like to give a BIG shout-out to Dinie Rosli 👏👏👏🏆

Dinie is a young and talented videographer who works as an Administrator with Impian Helang Sdn Bhd, an HRD Corp Certified Training Provider specialising in the Train the Trainer Programme, led by Rita Krishnan.

After our training recording session, I invited Dinie to take a look at a former Shell rally car that happened to be brought to the venue.

What happened next really caught my attention.

Without hesitation, Dinie asked if I could re-position the car to face the outdoor lighting. She immediately started looking at the angles, composition and lighting, and wanted to capture some photographs and video footage.

And then I discovered something else…

Dinie is a huge F1 and Michael Schumacher fan! ❤️🏎️🏁

What impressed me most wasn’t simply that she could operate a camera.

It was her eye for the shot.

She instinctively understood how to position the car, work with the available light, find the right angle and create a visual story. That is something you cannot simply learn from a manual. You need the passion, curiosity and natural eye for it.

As someone who has spent many years around automotive, motorsports, training and content, I genuinely enjoy seeing young people discover and demonstrate talents that may otherwise remain hidden.

So today, I’m proudly shouting it out:

“Dinie, you have got a real talent for videography and visual storytelling! 👏👏👏🏆”

Keep shooting. Keep experimenting. Keep learning.

Sometimes, all it takes is one opportunity, one camera and one subject you genuinely love to reveal a talent you didn’t even realise you had.

And judging from what I saw that day…

One of the Rarest Modern Proton Motorsport Collectibles

There are limited-edition cars… and then there are cars that carry a piece of motorsport history

The Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing belongs firmly in the second category

Developed to commemorate PROTON’s 25th Anniversary and its inaugural involvement with the Lotus Racing Formula 1 Team, only 25 units were developed as part of this extraordinary R3 project

🏎️ THE F1 CONNECTION

The Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing was officially unveiled on 31 March 2010 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, marking the launch of PROTON’s involvement with the Lotus Racing F1 programme

The launch was officiated by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who unveiled the car alongside Lotus Racing Team Principal and the F1 drivers:

🇮🇹 Jarno Trulli
🇲🇾 Fairuz Fauzy

Three development cars were subsequently handed over to the F1 drivers for their daily transportation during the Malaysian F1 race week at Sepang

🔧 6 WEEKS. 24 HOURS A DAY

Behind the glamour of Formula 1 was an extraordinary engineering and manufacturing effort by the PROTON R3 Motorsport team

The entire project was developed in an incredible six-week timeline leading up to the 2010 F1 season

To make it happen, the R3 team operated 24-hour shifts, with an 8-man crew per shift, pushing the development programme through the clock to meet the F1 race deadline

That is the part of the story many people today may not realise

This car wasn’t simply designed to celebrate an F1 partnership

It was built under genuine motorsport pressure, by the R3 team, for an F1-era PROTON project

By June 2010, R3 had completed the remaining 22 production units, bringing the project to its intended limited production run

🏆 16 YEARS LATER…

Today, the Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing has become an increasingly rare sight

Only a small number remain with their original owners, with some cars still proudly preserved by first-generation owners who understood their significance from day one

For collectors, the appeal goes beyond the car itself

Bagi seorang kanak-kanak, Jalur Gemilang mungkin hanya sebuah bendera yang dikibarkan dengan penuh kegembiraan. Tetapi di sebalik senyuman dan rasa bangga itu, tersimpan satu nilai yang sangat besar… cinta kepada Malaysia ❤️🇲🇾
