What is caster function:
Caster (or caster angle) is the tilt of the steering axis either forward or backward from a straight vertical line when you look at a vehicle from the side. It functions to keep your car moving straight and helps the steering wheel return to the center after a turn.
Main Functions of Caster:
•Straight-line stability: Keeps the vehicle tracking straight at high speeds so you do not have to constantly correct the wheel.
•Steering returnability: Forces the steering wheel to pull back to the middle position after you finish making a turn.
•Cornering grip: Tilts the tire slightly when turning to maximize the rubber contact patch on the road.
Types of Caster Angles:
•Positive Caster: The top of the steering axis tilts toward the rear of the car. This is what most standard cars use because it provides great stability and self-centering. Think of a shopping cart wheel trailing behind the pivot point.
•Negative Caster: The top of the steering axis tilts toward the front of the car. This makes steering feel lighter, but it makes the car unstable at high speeds and is rarely used.
