The company has invested RM 26 million in setting up this iconic building together with the 2.8 acres of land along Lanang Road, adjacent to the bridge leading into Pulau Li Hua residential area. Since its completion, the project has obtained Occupation Permit from the Sibu Municipal Council on 21.07.2014. This 4303 m2 facility conceptualises green building design principles, utilising locally ava
ilable industrial materials to facilitate pre-fabrication. In addition, the building’s landscape is complemented by more than 200 local jungle trees, and is partially irrigated by harvested rainwater. Strong focus is also placed on reduced energy consumption, where energy-efficient equipment and fittings are abundant. The design optimises daylight usage, and artificial lighting is only required for 20% of the indoor space. Furthermore, solar panels installed allow electricity sell-back, complementing the provision of socket outlets for charging green vehicles. This building will, hopefully, set an example for future sustainable development in Sibu. The “green-ness” of this building is reflected by its Silver certification in the Green Building Index (GBI), leading to its status as the first Toyota 3S Centre to obtain such certification in Malaysia. It is also a pioneering privately-owned commercial building in Sarawak to obtain GBI certification, which is a prerequisite for international corporations. The construction quality of the building has not been sacrificed for sustainability, as demonstrated by the achieved 83% in the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board’s (CIDB) QLASSIC assessment of construction quality. This is the highest score in Sarawak to-date. Besides its impressive qualifications on paper, this Toyota 3S Centre has also attracted a lot of attention owing to its photogenic building form, which would not have been possible without the dedication of the local craftsmen and their outstanding craftsmanship. Its popularity has promoted its status to a landmark in the Sibu townscape. In short, this building is an accurate depiction of Syarikat Kalulong’s commitment to social responsibility in environmentally-sensitive development. The high quality of the building reflects the excellent quality of the service provided by the company.
