What is Haldex AWD?
Haldex is an intelligent, electro-hydraulic system designed for transverse (sideways-mounted) engines.
Common Models Running Haldex Hardware
โข Volkswagen (4Motion)
โข Audi (Quattro)
โข Volvo (AWD)
โข Land Rover: (Early Generations).
Service Intervals & Maintenance:
โข Recommended Service Interval: Every 45,000 to 60,000 km
Haldex uses friction plates submerged in fluid, minute particles wear off over time and create a fine, thick sludge. If left unserviced, this sludge starves and destroys the electric hydraulic pump.
What is Replaced/Serviced:
1. Haldex-Specific Hydraulic Fluid (Regular gear oil or differential oil will ruin the system. It must be genuine Haldex fluid).
2. The Haldex Filter: Replaced with a new paper filter cartridge.
How do you know your Haldex is failing?
When you noticed your front wheels spinning or slipping excessively under hard acceleration from a standstill? If your car feels like it has suddenly become purely Front-Wheel Drive, your Haldex pump might already be starved or burnt out. Bring it in for a diagnostic check before a minor service turns into an expensive pump replacement!
