Why TOP OVERHAUL Doesn’t Always Fix Peugeot Engine Oil Consumption ⁉️❌🛢️

Many car owners think that doing a top overhaul (valve seal & cylinder head repair) will solve high engine oil consumption. But most of the time, it doesn’t.

Here’s why 👇
🔧 Oil consumption doesn’t always come from the top. For many Peugeot engines, the main culprit is often the piston rings, not just valve seals.

🔩 Worn or stuck piston rings
When piston rings are worn or carbon-stuck:
Engine oil slips into the combustion chamber
Oil burns together with fuel
No heavy white smoke, but engine oil level keeps dropping

👉 Top overhaul cannot reach piston rings, so the problem remains.

🔥 Carbon build-up inside cylinder
Direct injection Peugeot engines are prone to carbon build-up:
Causes piston rings to lose sealing
Oil control ring can’t scrape oil properly

⚠️ Temporary improvement ≠ real fix
Sometime oil consumption improves for a short time after top overhaul, but after few thousand KM, problem comes back

✅ Real solution depends on proper diagnosis
✔ Compression test
✔ Leak-down test
✔ Inspect piston & oil control rings

📌 Advice to Peugeot owners
Before spending money on overhaul:
👉 Diagnose properly
👉 Don’t assume “top overhaul = solution”
👉 Fix the root cause, not just symptoms

Few prevention to slow down in carbon build up & prolong piston ring lifespan
✅️ Use correct engine oil
✅️ Shorter service interval is better (7000-8000KM/6 Months whichever come first for high mileage cars)
✅️ Avoid constant short trips (At least once a week, drive until engine fully warm. To help burn off light carbon, reduces oil control ring sticking)
✅️ Preventive maintenance (Intake decarbonising when needed)

📌 Good maintenance ≠ zero problem, but it slows it down A LOT

With proper care, carbon build-up can be delayed and piston ring lifespan significantly extended.
