Founded in 1998 to promote and encourage the preservation, restoration, protection and use of classic vehicles and to lobby the competent authorities on behalf of the local historic vehicle movement. The Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki

On the 4th May 1998 three local clubs namely; the Historic Motorcycle Club – Malta, the Old Motors Club and the Military Vehicles Collectors Club got together to form the Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki (FMVA). Its goals were to further the interests of classic vehicle enthusiasts in Malta and to collectively lobby the authorities for favourable concessions. During 2010 and 2011 the FMVA was joined by the American Auto Club of Malta, the Military Vehicles Club of Gozo and the Valletta Grand Prix Federation. This means that the FMVA’s constituent clubs’ members now number around five-hundred making the it the largest federation in the Maltese Islands catering specifically for the interests of classic vehicle owners.

On the 4th of July 2026, The FMVA attended the European ANF Meeting held in Turin. This was hosted at Villa Rey by FIVA and the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI).
The meeting brought together representatives from 26 European member countries at Villa Rey, Turin, the headquarters of FIVA and the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI). The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between FIVA and its European members while addressing the major challenges and opportunities facing the historic vehicle movement.
Main topics discussed:

1. European legislation affecting historic vehicles

Updates on the EU End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Regulation, including safeguards for historic vehicles and their parts. They have managed to exempt historic vehicles, but it is to be noted that Historic vehicle is not defined. Also, parts for historic vehicles are also exempt but this can prove to be complicated.

Progress on the Roadworthiness Package, confirming that the European definition of a historic vehicle remains unchanged. This issue was resolved by letting every state deal with it. In our case, the FMVA has helped in eliminating the need for such a test (known locally as VRT) for vintage vehicles that are 50 years plus.

Recognition of historic vehicles as part of Europe's cultural heritage within the European Commission's developing Culture Compass for Europe.

Feedback from FIVA's meetings with the European Parliament and European Commission on 1 July 2026.

2. Strengthening FIVA
The General Committee presented initiatives to:

Modernise FIVA's governance and internal procedures.
Improve financial sustainability.
Enhance communication and services for member organisations.
Prepare celebrations for FIVA's 60th anniversary.
Expand FIVA's presence in North America through the FIVA USA initiative.

3. Discussion with member organisations
An open forum allowed national organisations to discuss:

Improvements to the FIVA ID Card system.
Growth of international FIVA events.
Membership development.
Financial matters.
Legislative priorities.
Better communication and value-added services for members.

Key outcomes
The meeting concluded with agreement that:

FIVA must continue to work proactively with European institutions to protect the interests of historic vehicle owners.
National organisations should collaborate more closely and share best practices.
Preserving authenticity while adapting to new environmental and regulatory challenges will remain a central objective.
Historic vehicles should continue to be recognised as an important element of Europe's cultural heritage.

What a fantastic celebration of classic and vintage motoring!
We are delighted to share some highlights from the 16th edition rally awards presentation.
The celebrations continued after the presentation, as participants, marshals, officials, and everyone who contributed to the success of the event came together to enjoy a delightful dinner. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, share stories from the day, celebrate friendships old and new, and reflect on another successful edition of our Festival.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this event such a memorable occasion.

The 16th edition of the ever popular FMVA Vintage Motors Festival has come and gone in a flash. The scope has always been to bring together the FMVA's constituent clubs in both Malta and Gozo, in one big event spread over two days. The hard work put in by the various member club coordinarors and their members paid dividends, as witnessed by the sizeable and diverse number of vehicles at the three rotating shows in Gozo. The regularity run in Malta also went down well and as ever participants showed great ability and skill, in keeping to the tricky time schedule, whilst also sandwiching in photo shoots of the required route checks and sending these on to the organisers in good time, whilst not getting lost. The consistency runs in Gozo also proved popular with the participants who managed to match their two runs of the 10 mile route from Munxar and back, with uncanny precision and all this while riding or driving their beautiful pristine and original vehicles from yesteryear! Thank you all for your support. Our thanks also go to our sponsors, namely: ENEMED, artist Joe Casapinta, Gozo Channel, Trelleborg Malta, and the Gozitan local councils of Ghajnsielm, Munxar, Nadur and Victoria. Last but not least to all the club coordinators, club members and marshals without whose support this two day event would be impossible to pull off.
