Conversation Mirror
Integrated into the sunglasses holder in the roof-mounted console above the rear view mirror, a wide-angle conversation mirror allows the driver to view all occupants of the second and third seating rows without the need to turn around.
CRAWL Control
CRAWL Control acts as an ‘off-road cruise control system’ that can automatically maintain a steady low speed by controlling both the engine output and the brakes across the challenging terrain.
CRAWL Control manages the engine and brakes with no driver input to maintain a very low and uniform speed, both uphill and downhill, with minimal spinning or locking of the wheels.
Wear on the drive-train is reduced and terrain damage is minimised as the driver is free to concentrate on steering the vehicle whilst the system delivers maximum control and stability.
Cruise Control
Long journeys can be tiring, even in the most comfortable vehicles. Cruise Control allows the driver to set their preferred speed and then remove their foot from the accelerator. This gives the driver more opportunity to concentrate on the prevailing road conditions and the other traffic.
A light steep on the brake pedal and Cruise Control is cancelled immediately, returning full control of the car to the driver. The previous set speed can be resumed by pressing the switch, or selecting a new speed that is more appropriate to the conditions.
Cruise Control can be overridden at any time to increase speed, for example when overtaking. Releasing the accelerator pedal allows the vehicle to return to the speed that was previously set.

D-4D Direct Injection System
D-4D is a Direct injection, 4 stroke, common rail Diesel fuel injection system that is now fitted to all Toyota diesel engines. D-4D is designed to provide higher power outputs, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and lower noise & vibration than a conventional diesel fuel injection system.
Common Rail Fuel System
The common rail fuel system then injects finely atomised fuel at extremely high pressure directly into the combustion chamber resulting in higher power outputs, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and lower noise & vibration than a conventional diesel engine.
Fuel Injection
The secret of D-4D’s outstanding performance is an electronic control unit that accurately calculates the fuel injection pressure, timing and volume according to how the vehicle is being driven and the demands being made on the engine.
DRL (Daytime Running Lights)
Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are fitted to the front of a vehicle to make it easier to see in daylight.
They consume very little power and are illuminated whenever the vehicle is being driven and the park lights or headlights are turned off.
Departure Angle
Refers to the maximum gradient that the vehicle can leave without the lower trailing edge of the rear bumper contacting the ground.
The closer the angle is to 90 degrees the better the vehicle will be for off-road work i.e. a larger departure angle means an increased ability to cross severe terrain.
DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a device designed to reduce emissions by removing diesel particulate matter (or soot) from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine.
Double Locking System
The Double Locking System is designed to prevent unauthorised access to the vehicle by disabling both the interior & exterior door locking functions.
Models with this system have labels on the window glass of both front doors.
To set the Double Locking System, close the doors and either:
Touch the sensor on the outside door handle twice within 5 seconds (if equipped with Smart Entry System)
or
Press the lock button on the wireless remote control twice within 5 seconds
DOHC (Double Overhead Camshafts)
Improves engine performance and efficiency.
A Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) engine uses separate camshafts to open the intake and exhaust valves, and features four valves per cylinder. This design allows the engine to breathe better resulting in better efficiency, smoother running and a higher power output.
DAC (Downhill-Assist Control)
Downhill Assist Control (DAC) is designed to keep the vehicle at a low and constant speed to allow the driver to maintain control during a steep off-road descent.
In some conditions, engine braking alone may not be enough to reduce speed and the driver will need to use the brakes. This can cause the vehicle to lose control, however with DAC, the brakes will be automatically controlled to limit the vehicle's speed without locking the wheels.
DRCC (Dynamic Radar Cruise Control)
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DNCC) takes cruise control one step further. It controls the accelerator & the brakes allowing the driver to maintain a pre-set following distance behind the vehicle ahead.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses a radar sensor to track vehicles in the lane ahead. If the system picks up a vehicle that is slower than the pre-set speed, or is closer than the pre-set following distance, it will automatically reduce the cruising speed to match that of the vehicle ahead and if necessary, will apply the brakes and activate the brake lights.
Once the road ahead clears or the vehicle ahead speeds up, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will smoothly accelerate your vehicle to the previously selected cruising speed.
Dynamic Torque Control AWD
Dynamic Torque Control AWD is a further development of Active Torque Control 4WD.
Active Torque Control uses an electronically controlled coupling system to transfer power to the rear wheels only when needed, helping to improve fuel economy.
Dynamic Torque Control adds two new functions, Yaw Control & SPORT mode.
It also uses the fuel efficient electronically controlled coupling system, however torque transfer to the rear wheels now takes place not only when wheel slip is detected (as with Active Torque Control) but also when the system senses a possible loss of control such as understeer during cornering on-road (Yaw Control).
Dynamic Torque Control also features a SPORT mode. When selected, torque transfer to the rear wheels will start from the moment the steering wheel is turned.
As a result of these new functions, the overall agility and driving performance of the vehicle is enhanced during both on and off-road driving.
