In January 1995, the MICRO car project was initiated and aimed at providing a National car which is a safer, economical, environmental friendly and affordable means of transport for the masses of the country, where it would be possible for majority of our people to own a car (mean of individualized transport). As Sri Lanka’s first ever car, the ‘MICRO’ is designed, developed and prototyped to be m

anufactured locally with at least 60% of local content. The prototype was prepared in 1999 with the running chassis, making its debut run in December. The body was modeled in styling clay and then transferred to composite for final analysis in June 2000. Micro Cars Limited was established in Sri Lanka by veteran Automobile Engineer, Dr. Lawrence Perera. The idea was to create a low-cost manufacturing and assembly operation that could produce high quality vehicles utilizing the resources and labor force of a developing nation. Micro Cars Limited has positioned itself as the only National Car Manufacturer having its own patent for small city cars. Micro Cars also caters to various other market segments through assembly of a range of vehicles from Compact Cars and Vans to Luxury SUV’s and Prime Movers.
