Marc Marquez suffers from visual disturbances again after Highsider
Marc Marquez's visual disturbances have returned after his heavy crash in Indonesia - How long the Honda rider will be out this time is unclear
Marc Marquez's injury bug does not stop: After the Honda rider crashed heavily in the warm-up to the Indonesian Grand Prix and therefore could not participate in the race, he now threatens to be out even longer.
Although no injuries were found after the highsider except for a concussion. But as a result of the impact, the visual disturbances, from which Marquez already suffered at the end of last year, have returned, as Honda officially confirmed in a statement this Tuesday.
"During the return trip to Spain, Marc Marquez had problems with his eyesight," it says. "Upon his arrival in Barcelona on Monday, he had an emergency visit to his trusted ophthalmologist, Dr. Sanchez Dalmau, who confirmed a return of diplopia after an examination."
However, Dalmau gives the all-clear cautiously: The renewed paralysis of the fourth optic nerve in the right eye, which causes diplopia, is "less pronounced" than in the injury in November. They have therefore opted for conservative treatment with regular medical tests.
Marquez himself wrote on his Twitter channel on Tuesday: "It seems that I am experiencing a deja vu. On the way back to Spain, I had problems with my eyesight, and we decided to see Dr. Sanchez Dalmau, who confirmed that it was a new episode of Diplopia."
"Fortunately, it's less serious than the injury I had at the end of last year. But now it's time to rest and wait and see how the injury develops. As always, many thanks to everyone for the support!!", he also addressed his fans.
In the current 2021 season, Marquez had crashed during off-road training and then complained of double vision (Diplopia). He had to sit out the last two races of the season in Portimao and Valencia and was also absent from the November test in Jerez.
How long Marquez will be out this time due to the renewed visual disturbances is unclear. Next week, he will be re-examined to assess the development of the injury. The next Grand Prix will take place on April 3 in Argentina.
