“Growing up in a big Mexican family, we never needed a special occasion to get together, a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation. Any excuse counted. That’s just how it was.
My sister and I moved away from home, but we didn’t let that go. Every weekend, our house fills up again – family, close friends who might as well be family, more food than we need, and a table that somehow always finds room for one more chair.
Getting everyone together takes work. Tables, chairs, whatever the week’s gathering calls for, we’re able to haul it all.
Even my daughter is learning. She sets up her dolls at the table, because in our house, everybody gets a seat.
That’s the tradition. That’s what we keep alive.” — texasdiymama
